Getting married this summer (early June) and planning honeymoon in South of France. I've had Collioure recommended to me - near Perpignan, apparently it's got nice Med beaches as well as the Pyrenees nearby.

Has anyone been there? Any good hotels that are walkable distance from the beaches and acceptable for, erm...honeymoon purposes?

Don't know Collioure but I stayed a week near Perpignan - very nice. The coast road to the Spanish border is excellent with nice villages/bays en route and I think Barcelona is 'day-trippable' if you keep going.

Make sure you get the 'train jaune' into the Pyrenees for superb scenery but check the train timetable for the trip back because there is absolutely nothing at the end stop and we had to kill about 2 hours. Very dull.

(Have also PM'd an occassional FISOer with this who used to live near there)

Thanks Murf - reassuring to hear it is a nice area. I think Barcelona might be pushing it a little but I'll definitely look into the 'train jaune'.

Appreciate the advice on my first real foray into the non-sports forums! Will be keeping the destination a secret from the Mrs until the last minute.

Just to say, I booked a hotel - Casa Pairal - and flights with (gulp) RyanAir last night.
