Hi guys.

I've arranged a poker night with some mates for the 2nd June.

I don't have sky sports, but I've subscribed online for the fight.

My question is. Do I need to have my phone line plugged into the back of my Sky box for this to work (I don't at the moment) or am I good to go?

Thanks.

In days gone by you had to from memory - I remember a panic when it was encrypted at 10pm and having to look for cables!

Why not get a curry, bottle of wine and treat the mrs to a 3.95 film (just to see if you need to and avoid an embarassing moment with the lads)

There was 2 ways to do it (years ago now) - 1 was to send a signal directly to the box every 2 hrsover a 24 hr period if that didnt work you had to connect the phone line. As I said my info is prolly out of date.

Cheers guys,

I've had a confirmation e-mail from Sky saying I've subscribed.

Doesn't mention having to plug my phone in, so hopefully it will just work.

(as much as my jumpy temperamental box ever does)

I spoke to sky about a similar issue a few months back as I was thinking of ordering the multi room package and taking the 2nd box into work on the sneaky. I gave them some cock & bull story about having the multi room out the back garden in an annexe without a phone line. The bloke at sky said if I didn't have it plugged into my phone after a while I'd receive warning letters that it needed to be connected to a phone line, then eventually be cut off if I didn't comply. Clearly that's just scaremongering bollocks as you don't seem to have ever been connected to a phone line.

Ps, don't have it 2 June.......no-one will turn up

Seems you don't need it plugged in to get that show as you've ordered it via online with your Sky details and it went through.
Quote from sky advisor:'When the box is connected again to your line and able to perform callbacks it can take up to 3 monthly callbacks for the credit limit on your card to be fully restored. Until this happens you will only be able to book box office events over the phone or through the Sky website at http://www.sky.com/orderboxoffice where the event is available for this. Booking events online or over the phone will mean that you cannot record the event, however you will have access to all repeats of the event.'

So how does Rupert tell your box you have paid to watch?

Same way he tells it you've got ESPN, Sky Sports or any of the channels

Exactly, they must have set a flag in your Sky box.
