Now I'm going off Sessegnon.
Wavering over the front 3: RVP, Aguero, Sturridge.

The last time I let myself get influenced by this thread, I got the princely sum of 4 points from Demba Ba...

Stoke are West Brom's bogey team, therefore the armband is firmly on Walters.

I voted Gerrard as captain early on in week as Im looking for a differential and Gerrard loves scoring against Bolton.

However, its nearly deadline time and Im in doubt now about captaining him. So Ive bottled it and gone back to captaining RVP...'if in doubt, captain RVP'... its one of my FPL commandments this season! :)

Fletcher 8-)

Although it is more to do with jinxing him, as I have Warnock in a few TFF sides, which are doing a lot better then this Pants team

Mata at the moment - probably change to Sturridge if news is that he'll start.

Norwich not kept a cleansheet all season, so stands to reason that they're not about to start against Chelsea.

Also, reckon Chelsea are past due to hammer someone - not scored more than 2 goals in a match since Dec 3rd.

FFS...

At least I left it on Mata for 3 Points rather than Sturridge's 2.

Mata was Chelseas best player imo and had a couple of shots saved. You mite pick up a bonus.

I played it safe and went for Silva :)

Had dempsey as captain this morning but changed it to vp and put him as vice. Thought this could be his week but didnt trust him enough to captain him over vp.

If anyone is going to the arsenal game can you try and get onto the pitch at warm up and break van persies leg!!

Actually no, just hurt him enough so he cant play the game.

I switched to Aguero (Sturridge) this morning.
It's in Aguero's control whether I read one of these captain threads again.

Bear in mind that the 'bearer of bad news' rates Arshavin above Ronaldo. Since that beauty I file all his opinions firmly where they belong.

World Class? No.

well hes comfortably better than others who get banded about in that category like nasri, mata and young.

keep not captaining him because you think hes not "captain material" x

Dont have him to captain. Still think he's not captain material. His goal today was only his second at home all season. People who captained him today took a gamble and got lucky.

This "not captain material" way of thinking is such a specious argument. Your captain should be the player you think is most likely to score more than any other player in your team for one week only.

Nothing else. That's it.

Sessegnon could be the best player in someone's team, or more likely he could be playing at home against the bottom club when all the other players are away to more difficult opposition. Captaining him doesn't mean you're saying he's a better player than the others, just that he stands a better chance of scoring the most points that week.

Looking to give the captaincy to someone who is "captain material" in your eyes would be an appropriate approach only if you had to choose one player to be your captain for the entire season, where you can ride out the poorer weeks by ensuring you capture every big haul, in those circumstances then RVP, Rooney etc are all great candidates, knock yourself out. But when the top 4 clubs from which captains are most often chosen all play each other in one week then looking elsewhere is perfectly reasonable.

Now, the usual suspects might go out tomorrow and all score hatricks and you'll doubtless say it proves this line of thinking completely wrong, but the fact is the odds favour some of the lesser used candidates this week, for Walters backers it didn't work out, for Sessegnon backers it did. Lucky? I don't think so, it was well reasoned and well rewarded. He was most definitely "captain material" if being captain material means the player most likely to score the most points this week.

Indeed, I totally agree with that well written post from Broadsword. All these terms flying around from some of these know-it-alls here who keep mentioning "he ain't captaincy material" and "that transfer is such a no-brainer" and one being "due some goals"... please
