The last one for tonight, the greatest heavy metal/rock bands beginning with the letter H.
This is a hard one for me, personally I'm finding it hard to find any quality heavy metal/rock bands beginning with the letter H.

Apart from Heart.

However one of my favourites has to be Hole.

Many people claim they are a Nirvana copy ableit with the wife of Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love as a female singer, however this band rocked with a capital R, quality tunes, attitude and the fantastic Melissa Auf der maur on bass (Who also went solo).

Here are a few top Hole tracks for you all to get into.

Hole are excellent.

Always thought Courtney Love was a dumb, talentless bitch. Then I saw them on Jools Holland with stuff from the last album and have since really got into them.

Big mentions also to PJ Harvey, Hurrah, Husker Du, House of Love, Hothouse Flowers and Happy Mondays (or did they start with E?)

However, there is only one H and they don't not need naming.

PJ Harvey would get my vote by a mile. One of the standout acts of the last 20 years, but if you're up against Hendrix in a 'Rock' vote, there's only going to be one winner...

Hole is undoubtedly the best name for a (predominantly) female band, and they (and her) are hugely under-rated; I'm not sure they can be considered the best band "related to" the letter H, even though it is a limited choice?

Love was brilliant in the film about the US Porn bloke, played by Woody Harrelson.

Hole = OK. Always reminded me a bit of L7/The Breeders/Verucca Salt (not sure who came first). Some good songs though.

Hard Fi - Cracking first album. "Stars of CCTV" very apt in view of the riots

Human League - Dare is awesome. Not so good after that and positvely dire in the 90's.

Happy Mondays - early stuff is not bad. I always thought they were a bit shambolic but they gave us Bez

Hendrix in the JHE was pretty awesome. His later stuff, was, a bit pants.

Of course, not forgetting HMHB

Human League's Travelogue is worth a listen, arguably better than Dare, which was actually by Mangue

Here is another - I'm pretty and sure it was before the band split, with (the political) half forming Heaven 17. (If you like this stuff try Burning Blue Souls by Matt Johnson\The The)

The The - was that Mindbomb ? My music taste is synth linfluenced in some ways but it cyrstallises with Editors and Interpol, more Joy Division influenced. I'll give The The a blast on Spotify and check out that Travelogue album

I can't think of any great bands beginning with H, but there are a few great individuals. Jimi Hendrix must be a strong contender for this category, but what about Buddy Holly, without whom rock might not have developed the way it did, or at least not at fast as it did. Also a namecheck for Emmylou Harris, who helped wrench country music away from the cliche's of the Grand Old Oprey and, with the Byrds' Gram Parsons (the love of her life), played a big part in creating country rock.

Mindbomb was The The but their biggest seller and probably most commercial / accessible as a starter is Infected.

Still not a H but it is pointless discussing H when the Biscuits will walk it or the whole comp will be shown up as an empty travesty.

PS Best current H bands would include the Hold Steady, Hot Chip and Husky Rescue.

Agree with first two as nominations, I missed them off earlier. Never heard of the Battersea offshoot .

My faves would be...
Hall and Oates - early stuff. First album Abandoned Luncheonette is great
Human League - Dare was their peak IMHO, rather than the earlier stuff
Plus a bit of prog from Home, such as the Alchemist album?

...but best of all has to be Hawkwind - In Search of Space especially was a brilliant album.

I don't know the Alchemist album but Home were one of the first bands I saw live, a couple of years before that. This is from the Pause for a Hoarse Horse album (with some nice blues guitar):

Hot Water Music are a massive talent. Wont expect a reaction on here as I doubt many will have even heard of them - but they have to get a mention.
