Thought it might be useful to have a topic on odd things happening at tournaments. For example, I'm often curious why a player is DQd (is it always signing for the wrong score or not signing the card??).

A couple of points from today and Sunday:

1. What shoes is Oliver Wilson wearing? They look like a pair of gloves. And is he allowed not to wear socks or do the 'glove shoes' have inbuilt socks?

2. In the final round last week at Singapore, Phil Mickelson was penalised 2 shots for being late on the tee. Anyone know why he was late?

Oh and 2 players triple bogeying their last holes today: Jimenez & YE Yang. Very odd.

I've always wanted to know the difference between a player retiring and a player withdrawing during a round? :?

And does anyone know where I can see Zach Johnson 6 putt at this years Texas Open
Can't find it on you tube :(

I posted this one on another thread. Ryuji Imadi was penalised 26 shots during the Star Trophy Pro am in China. His misdemeanor ? While the 'lift and play' (I think we call it 'preferred lie') rule was in operation, Imada mistakenly took a club length from his original spot instead of the length of a scorecard. He did it for 13 holes and the penalty was 2 shots each time. The result ? A round of 97

Normally on the PGA Tour when you are allowed to lift and clean your ball you can then place it within one club length of where it came to rest, but in China there was a local rule stating that it had to be the length of a scorecard. :|

Did you see what happened in the "sudden death" play off between Poulter and Karlsson in Dubai. They had to play the 18th until somebody won, and they halved it the first time round. At the second attempt both players went left again off the tee. Poulter played a good second with a five iron. Karlsson plays up slightly further leaving both players with pitches to the green. Bit of a mis-hit from Poulter for his third, comes up short and right but still a birdie putt. Karlsson virtually repeats his third shot of the first extra hole, 4 feet away again. Poulter then incurrs a one stroke penalty for dropping his ball onto his marker and then came up short leaving Karlsson to hole for his birdie 4 and the title.

Poulter was docked a shot on the second extra hole after he dropped his ball on his marker, leaving Karlsson to win it. Poulter said: "I was handed the ball back and have gone to mark it and literally it slipped two or three inches above the coin. It dropped on the edge and the coin flipped over and that is a shot penalty. "If it pitches in the middle and the coin doesn't move it is fine. I must admit that I've never heard of this one before.

The weird and wonderful rules of golf!

Does anyone remember this one? I reckon it was about 20 years ago and I think it was Craig Stadler. His ball is in a bunker, but because its near the side he needs to be outside the bunker to play his next shot. There is a bit of a drop to the ball so he is going to play the shot kneeling down outside the bunker. To prevent getting grass stains on the knees of his white trousers he lays down a towel on the grass, kneels on the towel and plays the shot.

Of course he got a 2 shot penalty  Something about using other equipment to gain an advantage or the like :?

The moral of the story is 'Don't wear white pants to play golf' :D

Oliver Wilson's shoe things are designed to help him use his feet better to drive his legs during the swing

He's given up with them know though as he's played shit since wearing them - I don't imagine I'll be seeing too many wearing them in the first medal of the season  I also heard that the fact Ollie wore them immediately meant his clubs were wrongly fitted as they're so flat footed that he probably lost and inch or so from his height.
