There was a strange interview with George O'Grady during the Beeb's (abysmal) first day coverage. It gave me the strong impression that he had pushed a shed-load of 'appearance' money VJ's way.Perhaps there was not enough left to satisfy Adam's demands.

Berhard Langer has withdrawn from the Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley.

Langer has only played at the Memorial twice in his career and both times he was cut. He has been replaced in the field by Doug LaBelle II, who will be playing in his first Memorial Tournament.

Quote:
Tim Clark on Tuesday morning withdrew from the Memorial Tournament.

The withdrawal isn't that big of a surprise, because Clark had talked last week about taking time to rest before the U.S. Open. He has been replaced in the field by Steve Lowery, whose best finish at the Memorial was a T-5 in 2000.

Quote:
Dean Wilson withdrew on Tuesday morning from the Memorial Tournament.

Dean Wilson played at the Memorial for the first time last year and he failed to make the cut. He has been replaced in the field by Ryan Moore, who had a T-31 in last year's event

Quote:
Vaughn Taylor withdrew on Tuesday afternoon from the Memorial Tournament.

Taylor has now withdrawn from the last three tournaments on Tour. He has been replaced in the field by Ryan Palmer, whose best finish at the Memorial was a T-39 in 2005.

Tiger prepares to take baby break

Woods and wife Elin are close to becoming parents
Tiger Woods says his schedule for the rest of 2007 is up in the air as he awaits the arrival of his first child.
The 12-time major-winner's Swedish wife Elin is due to give birth in early July and he is ready to take a long break.

"I don't know how much I'm going to play after or before (the birth) - a lot depends on how Elin is feeling and the health of our child," he said.

Woods, 31, has already said he is prepared to miss the Open at Carnoustie from 19-22 July.

Asked if he would be able to defend his USPGA title in Tulsa, Oklahoma from 9-12 August, he said: "I hope so."

Woods, currently preparing for next week's US Open at Oakmont, won 11 tournaments in 2006, including the Open and USPGA.

However, he admitted on Monday that he had struggled to get back into the rhythm of playing again after the death of his father Earl just over a year ago,

"Every time I'd go practise I'd always think about my fundamentals and who taught me them but my father," Woods said.

"It was hard to get away from it because a lot of the things I learned to do in the game came from my father.

"That was probably a more difficult task than actually getting back on the course because I have so many great memories of being with my dad on the golf course."

Tiger should be fine for the open - Sam Alexis Woods was born yesterday.

Congratulations Tiger, and here's to you playing in the remaining triple weighters :D

What odds on the "Saw" winning a Major by 2030?

Looks like Vijay will be out 'til The Open
Quote:
PGA Tour Insider Dave Shedloski reported in his column Monday that Vijay Singh will rest until the British Open at Carnoustie, Scotland (July 19 - 22).

According to Shedloski, "A three-time Buick Open champion, Singh is sitting out until the British Open because of an ankle injury that has plagued him since mid-March and newly developed sore elbow." He is seeking medical opinion on his injuries and will have an MRI today (6-25)

i would have dropped singh for furyk as he is playing the next 2 weeks. However it would take 2 transfers to do that as o already have 5 yanks.

woods for furyk is a single one but i wd reverse it next week.

i have 6 playing i will trust them

Good call - no point using them just to enhance a player at this stage. Even if Furyk performs top 5 it will not hurt you much and the guy you drop could do well.
Saying that - I am so far behind I might just risk it ;)

I do feel Furyk is coming into form and he is playing 2 weeks in a row and then the open. I would have been tempted to make the change from Vijay and leave it for the open. Singh has been very consistenly scoring points however. He ha sonly really disappointed me at the US open where a back 9 of 40 dropped him from 9th to 20th and cost me 35 points.

That change would have left me with 17 transfers still. However MAhan and Austin are still playing well and i dont mind them playing next week at tigers event.
Woods
Rose
Immelman
Zach
Dyson in Europe?
Austin/Mahan/ Villegas for a single pointer isn't a bad side, even without either Singh or Furyk.

for a major i would make the change

Been away from PC for a few days so not sure if this has been mentioned on forum:

Next week is the AT&T National in Bethesda, Md., the tour tournament hosted by Tiger Woods. But his participation in the event is still undetermined.

"It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't play in the tournament next week," said Robert Allenby, who took off seven weeks after the birth of his first child during his first full PGA Tour season. "He probably will, but also he wants to be there with his wife and child. It's a lot of work for a new mom and she needs a lot of support in the first few weeks."

Hi sam, i think if he withdraws then we can make a decision next week. single point events are not that conclusive that it is worth worrying about too much. I think he will play personally.

Good news from USA Today
Quote:
Two weeks after becoming a father, Woods will return to competition at the AT&T National. The tournament got another boost Wednesday when three-time major champion Phil Mickelson said his recovery from a wrist injury is ahead of schedule and he will join the field at Congressional Country Club on July 5-8.

Woods will announce Thursday or Friday that he's playing, a tournament official said Wednesday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity pending the official announcement.

Jim Furyk (No. 3) and Adam Scott (No. 4) previously committed to play in the AT&T National.

Quote:
Scott Verplank withdrew on Monday morning from the AT&T National.

Verplank has been playing well recently and he was one of the early favorites with the odds makers in London to win the AT&T National. He has been replaced in the field by Lee Janzen, who has missed his last two cuts after a nice T-13 at the U.S. Open.

Quote:
J.J. Henry has withdrawn from the AT&T National.

Henry missed the cut at last week's Buick Open, so he could be just taking some extra time off after a heavy schedule in the last two months. He has been replaced in the field by Andrew Buckle, who is playing better recently after a very rough period following his mini-meltdown at the Buick Invitational in January.

Quote:
Nathan Green withdrew on Monday from the AT&T National.

No immediate reason was given for the withdrawal on his website, but he could be just taking some extra time off after playing quite a bit of golf in the last few months. He has been replaced in the field by Johnson Wagner, who made cut last week at the Buick Open after missing his previous nine cuts on Tour.

More on Westwood;

Quote:
Lee aggravated a left knee injury practising for the event at Le Golf National and had already arranged a scan for Monday. He will attend a specialist in sport injuries and Lee has confirmed that he has withdrawn from the Smurfit Kappa European Open this coming week (5th July).

Doesn't sound good :(

Last week I brought him into loads of my teams as he was due to play the next 4 weeks (and he's good, of course!)................

News: Contrary to initial expectation, Singh (elbow) is in the field for this week's AT&T National.
Notes: Initially Singh was expected to rest his elbow and ankle until the British Open, but apparently he has healed more quickly than expected.

From the BBC website;
Quote:
Casey has decided not to risk a bruised back muscle.

Not entered for next week's Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond, Casey's next outing will now be at the Open. The Englishman is not thought to be in any danger of missing Carnoustie.

Another one bites the dust!

Olazabal pulls out of Loch Lomond and is a doubt for Carnoustie.

13:38 12Jul2007 RTRS-UPDATE 1-Golf-Knee injury makes Olazabal a British Open doubt

(adds quotes, detail, byline)
By Tony Jimenez
LOCH LOMOND, Scotland, July 12 (Reuters) - Twice former U.S. Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal is doubtful for next week's British Open after an injury to his left knee forced him out of the warm-up event at Loch Lomond on Thursday.
"There is a question mark obviously," the Spaniard told reporters at the Scottish Open. "I will know by Tuesday.
"I am going to wait as late as possible to see if there is enough improvement. I will play 18 holes at home and if the knee stands up the following day I will travel."
Olazabal said he was okay swinging the club but had trouble with his mobility.
"I didn't play in the (pre-tournament) pro-am but I managed to hit a few balls," he said.
"That's not the problem, it's the walking. In the afternoon I got treatment. I went to bed last night and didn't sleep well and this morning it was the same again so there was no point trying to play."
Olazabal is clearly disturbed by the nature of his injury.
"I have had blood tests and MRI scans done. I have seen doctors and they gave me anti-inflammatory tablets," he said.
"I am going home and getting an MRI on my back tomorrow. I am trying everything because the MRI on the knee came back clean so something is causing it. We need to know what it is."
Olazabal, who had been due to tee off in the first round at 1300 local time (1200 GMT) alongside British pair Colin Montgomerie and Ian Poulter, was replaced by compatriot Rafael Cabrera Bello.
The 41-year-old Spaniard, who won the Masters in 1994 and 1999, withdrew from the 1995 Ryder Cup with a foot problem.
He was eventually diagnosed with rheumatoid polyarthritis in three joints of his right foot and two in his left.
Olazabal returned to golf after an 18-month absence during which he could often not even get out of bed.

addendum to above:

Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal has withdrawn from this week's Open at Carnoustie because of a knee injury.

The 41-year-old, who has not played since finishing tied for 45th at the US Open four weeks ago, has been replaced by American Tom Pernice.

problem is that if you don't transfer him out and he starts but then seizes up which quite often happens playing golf as any golfer can attest to, then you might well have blown it.
