Partnering Terry at the back, should be more solid with him at CB now, likes to get forward for corners, and for that price for a Champions League team, a must have?

(Will be earning 100k a week, surely that means a regular starting place)

A Cole - Terry - Cahill - Luiz/Bos?

Eh?

So it's gone through?

I'm confused.

By the way, it's normally practice for 1 centre back to stay back and 1 go up. Doubt both Terry and Cahill will go up for corners.

Wow.

Cole Luiz Cahill Bos

That looks like one shaky defense to me.

No thanks

I don't get why Cahill is so highly rated. If he's such a hot defender, how come Bolton have the worst defence in the Premier League? :? A similar thing happened before, when Distin went to Everton. Everyone was getting so excited about what a great defender he was, and how he was going to get loads of clean sheets for Everton. But I was thinking, yeah, but if he's such a brilliant defender how come Portsmouth have been leaking goals like a sieve? Sure enough, Everton's defence after Distin joined them was just as bad as it was before.

Scott Dann and Roger Johnson a similar case. They took Birmingham down and then were transferred back into the premiership to Blackburn and Wolves where they don't seem to be helping much there either. I'd rather have Samba than Cahill myself but the gap in class between the top 6 and the rest seems to be growing, so anyone playing in the relegation zone must be a risky buy. .. Charlie Adam another one who went down ..

I've never heard such practice. Particularly as I grew up watching Pallister and Bruce score a shed load of goals getting on the end of corners.

Full-backs traditionally stay back.

Indeed. Very strange, it's usually always the fullbacks that remain around the halfway line during set pieces to put the cover on.

Depends on the individuals. For Liverpool both Skrtel and Agger will go up but if Carragher is playing he will often stay back. If Cahill and Terry are good threats at corner they will both go up. Better them than Bos and Cole surely. Might be different if Ivanovic is an option at RB...

Would Chelsea not like to experiment with Luiz in a midfield role. He's certainly a decent footballer, though obviously not reliable in a back four.

Dann and Johnson were pretty solid though, as proved by the seasons prior to their relegation season. It was pretty clear when Birmingham went down that their problems were scoring goals rather than leaking. Although yeah it wasn't their best season I suppose.

As for Cahill, Bolton have leaked goals badly the last few seasons. I doubt Cahill would be so in demand if he hadn't have scored so many goals himself.

Maybe the reason there's so much hype around Cahill is that everyone's desperate to find a decent England centre back to replace the ageing Terry and Ferdinand. People are believing the PR simply because they want to believe it.

There again, 5.2 for a Chelsea defender is tempting...

Alot of teams send up both CB's for corners.

LB, RB & Holding Mid usually stay back

For the record Chelsea always sends both CB into the box and when Ivanovic is in at RB all three go up. Ashley Cole is always the furthest and usually only man back at the mid line.

Cahill at 5.2 would be extremely tempting but it is a huge rotation risk. AVB will have 4 CB at his disposal (Terry, Luiz, Ivanovic and Cahill). He has played both Luiz and Ivanovic at RB so they could just push Bosingwa out completely but cant be sure. If Cahill gets regulat playing time then it is a great bargain. But how long will it be before we get that confirmation...GW25?

I'm very tempted to bring Cahill in with my wildcard, there must be a strong chance he'll walk straight in to the team I'd have thought?

So the lowest-scoring team in the league were taken down by their two central defenders, one of whom got injured in January and missed half the season?

Transfer now confirmed.

Straight in my team, very good value if he's a regular starter. He could chip in a few goals as well.

Watch his price shoot up as well! All aboard......................choo choo!

Your attempts to start a bandwagon for your own gain are pathetic.

I've wildcarded him in

Let the bandwagon roll!

If he starts against Norwich they'll be no stopping it... :D

I hope so as that's by the time I'll play my wildcard. I won't be keeping him though I think. I am actually more interested to see where Samba will end up if he leaves Rovers in few weeks time.

I'm really tempted by this. The NTI's certainly aren't helping me to stay away from this transfer.

My strategy was always to try and get players that might rise 0.2 in a few weeks before the wildcard if they have good fixtures.

I got Skrtl last week who rose and given the cleansheet and good fixtures for the next two he could go up, he probably will if they get a cleansheet this week.

Cahill could make it up 0.1 on the basis of him even being at Chelsea so if he starts and they keep a cleansheet the extra 0.1 could see me profit to either keep or lose in my wildcard.

Decisions :!: :?:

Just got him in. Hopefully he'll start at CB with Terry meaning more CS for the Blues.
