Mark Hughes is in charge, no doubt wants to buy some of his old Man C players and forget looking for defensive points from one of his teams!

Hughes will play a holding midfielder so my guess is Duff, Murphy, Etuhu & Davies

Racing Post "best XI":

Schwarzer
Paintsil Hughes Hangeland Konchesky
Duff Murphy Etuhu Davies
Dempsey Zamora

I'll try and post all of these if I find time over the weekend. Hopefully they're a useful starting point for discussion. Right now, however I have season bets to make. :)

[edit] Given the limited time he has to meld the squad, Hughes' best best might be to start with the XI that he inherited from Hodgson. They were a pretty effective unit, especially at home. He could do with some backup for Zamora as AJ is turning into the new Saha. Dempsey is featuring high in my draft squads and Konchesky is in a few.

This is wrong. Chris Baird will play ahead of Etuhu. I'm going through these Racing Post lineups and to me they're generally a bit off.

what about Gera?
Player of ther season last year, scores a hat trick yesterday - surely Hughes will find a space for him?

I've posted them as straw men for people to have a go at and try and get some discussion going. So please do add more comment elsewhere.

RP are normally pretty good; they certainly do the best preview of any publication out there but I don't expect them to be perfect.

Sure, good starting point for debate, but after looking at most of the RP lineups, they seem to be a bit lazy on occasion. Baird started virtually all of Fulham's Prem games last season, almost all in central midfield. Etuhu mostly just played in the European games.

Right, I'm off to disagree with the omission of Matt Jarvis from the Wolves lineup...

Would certainly risk Gera for the short term but Hughes may buy more attacking players between now and the end of the month to push him out a bit.

M Dembele. Thoughts on this guy?

Cheap player registered as a midfielder although he looks to be supporting Zamora. Will he be a regular starter? At risk when dempsey comes back into form??

Suddenly every semi-informed FF manager and his dog are asking about the Belgian. He's cheap and has potential but he meets every CK criteria.

Can any Fulham-ites fill me in on Stephen Kelly? I gather that two seasons back he played 3000+ minutes for Birmingham ... what happened last year at Fulham? Was he out injured, marginalised by the good form of other players & emergence of Hughes, or ? And any news on how likely he is to figure in Mark Hughes' plans from hereon in?

I know ppl can be a bit anti-Hughes in terms of defensive points for his teams ... but with Fulham's organisation from last year surely leaving some residual good memories, and their friendly run of fixtures ... Stephen Kelly? I just need to know more about this lad before I can draft him in.

Much appreciate any thoughts/ramblings.

Further to the preceding post. Presumably Kelly is a shoe-in at left back now that Konchesky has gone to Liverpool?

So with Katuka and Gudjohnsen signing - what is the situation up front at Fulham now - will Dempsey return to midfield?

There was some positive news regarding the fitness of Aaron Hughes on Friday afternoon when Manager Mark Hughes revealed he is confident the defender will be fit for Sunday’s game against Blackpool at the Cottage..
