Simply stunning TV from Aunty last night.

The scenery, especially in HD, was fantastic.

Felt sorry for the male polar bear though. Having to fight off all those other males just for five minutes of fun. He was a bloody wreck at the end.

Also pretty awesome seeing the killer whales in team formation, generating waves to crack the iceberg on which some poor, cuddly, doe eyed sea lion was perched....but not for long :(

Some great footgae too of Mount Erebus.

Looking forward to episode 2 8-)

Seconded....it was awesome.

I was recording it anyway but couldn't pull away from the tv. The glacier cracking apart to form the iceberg in the Arctic was another highlight. What did you make of the bison segment - I could swear the adult butted the young one that was being attacked to the ground as a sacrifice to let the rest of them escape!

Yeah, it did look like this ! Talk about a whack up the backside - he virtually launched the poor young thing, which was then dinner for a pack of hungry wolves.

Wasn't really mentioned by David Attenborough at all.

Have to agree, excellant program. The whales popping out of the hole, must have been a dream for the camera team.

Stunning TV. I didn't know killer whales were that sharp in the wild. The look on the seals face as it stared at the camera for a final time just before it was dragged off into the depths reminded me of my first date with my wife. But that is another story and not one for HD

Cheers!
I saw the bit last night when the penguin was being chased. Quite glad he managed to get away! The clips won't load for me either.

I have the whole thing now via a torrent so I can watch later. Let me know if you want the link to the torrent.

This programme raised a question that has given me food for thought over the years. We see Polar Bears struggling to survive in the Arctic because Seals are a rare commodity and very difficult to catch, so what if we moved a few of them to the Antarctic where there are Seals and Penguins aplenty ? Would they survive ? Would it upset the balance of nature ?

It would certainly upset the seals and penguins! Strangely enough, paw, I thought something similar, but in terms of why are there not polarbears in the Antartic anyway?

Must have missed the last iceberg out of town I guess?

Just watched it now 8-) great programme. Perhaps the most amazing thing is Attenborough is still considered fit enough to film in these locations, I know I wouldn't fancy it & he's almost double my age. Maybe its time to pass the baton on to someone like Steve Backshall (Deadly 60) although his presentation style seems much more aimed towards the children.

Sealions didn't exactly come across as the brightest animals & I too wondered why there are no Polar Bears in the Antarctic. I also dispute the commonly held belief that there are no 2 snowflakes that are exactly the same. Is there a snowflake database where millions and millions have been recorded and tested for matches, I think its too improbable that something so small could not ever be repeated.

Also wondered why the Male Polar Bear defended his 'female' to within an inch of his life only to then go there seperate ways, perhaps to never see each other again ? He'd 'had' her - is there some sort of Polar Bear Jeremy Kyle paternity test show that we are as yet unaware of, will the child eventually seek out his natural Father ?

Pa its the global warming not the lack of sealion.s

You need the ice-floes or else the Polar Bear cannot hunt.

He latched onto her scent pretty good and then rolled around in it. He the stalked her. People say I'm weird when i do that with women :)
Then she was willing to have sex as soon as he found her, no drinks, no dinner, no movie and halfway through the business other polar bears tried to pick a fight with him. He beat them up and then she seem uninterested. Once she said she was pregnant then he was off.

I would guess the Polar Bears would get effing fat

But then they would get a tad annoyed at trying to bash holes in the ice to go "fishing".
