Eagle can I make a suggestion for the following rounds ...
It's one of the flaws with this game really. The selections did fall below 8 twice this round but are not likely to get to 0 other than for weeks like this one (postponements). If you take out the minutes played it brings in to play the lower numbers but makes the higher ones less likely.
I played with the following ideas for a while but was not sure they would make much difference (other than option 5).
1) Have a penalty player whose score is taken off the total
2) Penalise a yellow card with a further -3 points, red card with -5
3) Have a joker played on one player that doubles their score to help reach the higher levels
4) Use only single positions - GK's one week, FW's another, DF's another ... etc
5) Introduce a scoring factor: -2,-1,1,2 which is multiplied by players scores to widen the scoring range.
1. would make higher scores difficult to reach but would take the score below 0 some weeks. Probably move average to 1st Dozen.
2. Would vary the scores a little more as cards are less predictable (for some players) but would make higher scores rarer still.
3. Was an idea to help the original 3-player selections reach higher scores but makes the lower ones rarer.
4. Would vary the scores a little as scoring potential varies between positions but still most totals would fall within 5->30.
5. Add's additional mathematics to calculations/predictions so may not be liked by players.
Option 5 is the only one that really has potential to play with the predictability of the game by introducing negative scores but could just balance out if all four factors are used each week.
I'm open to ideas if players want any adjustments. The only stipulation is that the idea can not be too complex and the data must be easily obtained from the FPL home page statistics (i.e. click on the game result from the home page without the need to login or to go to the Fantasy Stats pages).
You have to run through a few scenarios as some of these ideas only move the average score from the 2nd Dozen to the 1st or 3rd which does not alter the predictability of the game.
