I must have smelt the scurvy and it put me off course. Still, I never sailed that well last year, so I'll take 2nd for now....

Gameweek 11 Progress
(Week 5 of Leg 1 - Final week)

Gameweek begins 29th Oct 11am

GE Link updated - Refresh to view 8-)

Pool A

3 boats had already made it into port last week so the race was on for 4th place and this was decided on tack 3 when Chester Draws crossed the finish line. Sultan of Barnet picked up 5th on the next tack. It was going to be close for 6th as Its Just Not Cricket and The Bare Bones approached the line together on tack 6 - and that was the order in which they finished by virtue of Its Just Not Cricket using just 21% of that tack compared to The Bare Bones' 89%.

It would have been a 3-way race had Clichy on-board Presti Spudgunners not made a mess of his approach to the final waypoint on tack 3. This mistake that found him eventually finishing on tack 10 in 10th behind Self Cleaning Ovens (tack 9) and Ajax Hamster Jam (also tack 10 but lesser tack %).

Tack 13 and the final finisher in this pool was Donkeys Ride Again which left Equipe Chat's Noir, Diminutive Midgets, Diminutive Midgets and LUFC 1963 still at sea when the claxon sounded. Donkeys Ride Again could well have got home earlier had he not run aground on tack 8 - a fate he narrowly avoided when he restarted following repairs on tack 11.

Pool B
Screenshot - Standings

With just 1 boat home in the previous week big points were still available for the boats in this pool and as expected Nutstars claimed 14 of them by crossing the finish on the first tack of the week.

It was going to be close for 3rd as Crazy Canucks and The Drogs both had passed the final waypoint and Y'all be bad had it within his sights. But disaster on tack 3 for Crazy Canucks as Steinsson took his boat onto the rocks of Isla de Flores east of Montevideo - repeating what befell them at the end of the previous week. This left the way open for The Drogs who got close to the end on tack 4 but a poor tack 5 allowed Y'all be bad to sneak through for the 13 points with The Drogs making it to port the following tack.

By this time Crazy Canucks had made repairs and set course for the finish again but a strong tack 6 by At it again pulled him ahead and while both completed the leg on the next tack it was At it again who secured the extra point using less of his tack distance (24 vs 56).

Kelly's Heroes had now passed the final waypoint but she was coming in from a northerly direction and couldn't change course enough to avoid running aground on the coast of Rocha.

The next boats to finish were A Smoked Cheese Pig and Time for Trumpton on tack 11 with A Smoked Cheese Pig having the slight edge (41%/76%) - with No-Eye Deer being the final boat in this pool to complete the leg in time in 9th.

Atlético Tcf was just 6Nm short of the line in 10th and Kelly's Heroes next, followed by Green Peace, Lukes Giants, Family Bereavements and SuperSlaves. It will probably be a leg to forget for Kelly's Heroes as, once she'd completed repairs following her incident earlier in the week, she again got too close to the coast and narrowly avoided calamity on tack 11 but couldn't do the same on tack 12. Having restarted again she promptly ran aground a third time and ended the week on the beach at La Pedrera in Uruguay.

Pool C
Screenshot - Standings

3 boats already in port and the week began with 4 more with the finish in their sights.

Ardley Athletic was first on tack 2, picking up 12 points in the process, and he was followed later on the same tack by Zuluwarriors.

A small gap and then FC Boscoppa completed the leg on tack 4 with Doomsday just behind him on tack 5.

Förbrytarbeteende IK and Galatasarky then crossed the line on tack 8 with Förbrytarbeteende IK having the advantage (15%/71%).

The final boats to finish were Cow Tipping Frogs and Hoops! on tack 10 - with Cow Tipping Frogs earning the extra point (36%/78%).

No mishaps what-so-ever approaching port in this pool - well done to all the skippers.

Still racing when the leg was called to a close were Roman Villa (just 10Nm short), The Cooler King (33Nm short), Special Riders and, still to pass the final waypoint, The Drog's Ballacks.

Pool D
Screenshot - Standings

Again big points were still available in this pool with only the top 2 places already taken.

A Team of Johnsons and grob's grasshoppers battled straight away and both finished on the first tack of the week but A Team of Johnsons took the final podium position by using less of his tack (15%/65%).

Two tacks later and Darlo Queens put her misfortune of the previous week behind her and picked up 11 points for 5th place.

The same tack had Vellus Arsefield run aground north of Montevideo. Could this be a break for Kazma United? ... unfortunately not as he too hit the rocks the very next tack.

By the time both had made repairs and restarted Tramp Attack had moved ahead of them but Vellus Arsefield made a lunge for the line with Lampard at the wheel and took the 10 points.

A poor tack 8 by Young aboard Tramp Attack allowed a further 3 boats to pass him - Kazma United, Halfway Up Virginia and Bullys Special Prize - and this 3-way race was settled in that order by virtue of the % of their respective tacks used (36/81/95).

Tramp Attack finally made it on tack 9 followed by luckysevens on tack 11 and then .................... on tack 13. This left 3 boats still sailing when the leg closed - Mid Table Struggler and Robots in Disguise were approaching the finish and Naked Pirates was way behind having just passed waypoint 6.

................................

So the first leg is now complete and all crews have a short time in Buenos Aires before the second begins - taking them round the Horn and on to Wellington. Time to repaint those hulls and get ready - the draw for leg 2 will be made shortly.

A quick word about Self Cleaning Ovens who had a few navigation problems during the week and finds himself in the middle of pack.

Honestly, when is the next time you'd find yourself sailing around these parts with your FPL companions. You'd be a fool not to have a good look around.

It's a sign!

You're going to come 8th!

I DID finish 8th

If I draw a figure 15 en route to the 1st waypoint of the next leg I'm cracking out an outboard motor.
