**THERE ARE NO DATES IN THIS FILE**- just GWs

Files hosted at MediaFire.com

Latest Copy: 09/10 Grid - to Finish
(edited 11/03/10)

Same principle as last year
(Last years thread & Last years completed grid)

(The printarea is set to still fit everything on one page when printed).

I will keep up with Fixture Changes thread in Team News and Fixtures when , I'm assuming, a new sticky for this year is created and when initially announced fixtures are revised.

For this provisional version team rankings/ratings are based on based on average odds from OddsChecker as at 17th June 09

How it's calculated (for anyone interested)

Each team is given a Ranking. This combines the predictions of the major Bookmakers at the start of the season and the table as it stands when the Grid is updated. For this initial set only last years table is used. (The 2 tables are combined using a weighting of % of games played so far by each team - so the deeper into the season the more influence the current table standings have and the less that of the predictions. This is a straight pro-rata weighting).

This gives a combined table which ranks teams from 1 to 20 and is listed on the Rankings sheet.

Then the difference between the rankings is taken and that difference gives a rating between -3 and 3 using the following banding:-

Diff, Rating
+19 to +14, -3
+13 to +9, -2
+8 to +4, -1
+3 to -3, 0
-4 to -8, +1
-9 to -13, +2
-14 to -19 +3

...then +1 or -1 to that for home/away.

So a team playing at home to one that is 11 places below has a fixture rating of +3 (+2 and +1 for home).

Example (based on original grid rankings in first version from June - different now).

For MAN(1) vs SUN(13), say, take the difference in the ranking - so we get for MAN +2 and SUN -2

Then for each team +1 if at home and -1 if away gives:-

MAN home to SUN: MAN rating = +3, SUN rating -3
MAN away at MID: MAN rating = +1, SUN rating -1

Colours graduate down from Red (Hot) to Blue (Cold) - a scale from -4 to +4

For the colours of the Results (when available) the following applies:-

W,D,L: Straight goal difference. GD of 0 = neutral, +ve GD grades of red (hot to hotter), -ve GD grades of blue (cold to colder).

Goals For: 0 = blue(cold) then moving through grades of red for each goal scored.

Goals Against: 0 = red(hot) then moving through grades of blue for each goal conceded.

Cheers Karrde :)

Updated to reflect the other 2 to-be-rearranged-fixtures - now 3 fixtures missing from GW2.

Latest provisional

With ref to the Fixtures thread going - I'll eat my hat, if I had one, if the above grid isn't how it will be - 38 GWs etc...

Thank you so much Romyn!
This is an essential tool for any serious FPLer!

I printed it off yesterday and spent an hour reviewing it on the sofa! :D

Great work, just waiting for the TFF one now thanks...

What is Yellow then, dead middle of hard and easy?

TOT first game has LIV(H) as orange, which this heatmap is sayng is a 'good' fixture for Spurs...is that correct?

Cheers

Yellow - yes around mid-way between Hot and Cold

For how the TOT/LIV ranking were done read the first post ... but it boils down to a combination of the different in their ratings and a H game for TOT that turn it to a not-cold for them.

Other systems have been suggested over the years but this one seems ok for an overview type thing

Ok, it just feels wrong for anyone to have a big 4 team as a 'good' fixture even at home, perhaps the big four should get an extra point as they are usually so far ahead of the rest?

Just a suggestion while you are in 'provisional' mode, you are welcome to ignore me

Excel Viewer as the name implies, this is a viewer only. You can't edit with it.

Open Office bit large just for opening 1 file, as it's a whole Office suite of applications.

Hi All,

Not sure where I saw it but read somewhere that the teams are paired so that when one is home the other is away. Using RomynPG's fantastic file I did some shuffling and came up with this, thought it might help if you want to rotate a couple of cheapies playing the guy who's at home each week:

ARS - TOT
AST - BIR
EVE- LIV
MCY - MAN
BLA - BUR
CHE - FUL
HUL - POR
STK - WHM
SUN - WOL
BOL - WIG
Haven't checked who's who with each team yet.

hi, just thought i'd pop in and say thanks for doing this, great work! so useful!

just a quick qu, are the bookie prediction odds updated throughout the season or do they remain the same... the main issue at the moment being portsmouth, whose odds have gone right down to 3rd favourites to be relegated...

thanks again!

Guy

Hi GuyH - welcome to FISO :)

I hadn't intended to change the Bookie Odds but I might do so if they change radically - will have a looksee.

As it stands POR were ranked 13th on OddsChecker (combined overall from all major bookies) when the season started and are now 15th - so that won't make too much difference to the fixture ratings in the grid. Add to that that as the season progresses the actual table standings become more important than the initial rankings - ie when 1/2 way through it's 50/50 weighting between to the 2.

Thx for the comments though - I'll keep my eye on it.

(Next update will be after the midweek games are completed)

ah, i definitely thought they were predicted lower than that, i don't suppose it changes much if they're still in 15th. plus i suppose the bookies can get carried away with results, just one game in and a few are tipping arsenal as contenders for the title...

anyway i'll definitely be keeping updated with your spreadsheet over the course of the season, thanks again!

Just wanted to pop by and say "Thanks". It doesn't quite look the same when I've printed it at work on a black & white printer, but I suppose it serves me right for trying to sort out my team while I'm at work.

I don't suppose there's been any word on when the re-arranged week 2 fixtures will take place?

having an issue opening the latest (9/15) file in excel.

"Excel found unreadable content in 'FPL_FixturesResults_2009_10_GW5.xls' Do you want to recover the contents of the workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.'

I clicked yes and got a load of garbage.

here is the contents of the error log file

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
- <recoveryLog xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main">
<logFileName>error018920_01.xml</logFileName>
<summary>Errors were detected in file 'C:\Users\andybu\Documents\My Excel\Personal\TFF\FPL_FixturesResults_2009_10_GW5.xls'</summary>
- <additionalInfo>
<info>Excel recovered your formulas and cell values, but some data may have been lost.</info>
</additionalInfo>
</recoveryLog>

Anybody else get the issue ??

Cheers
Andy
