Great stuff. :D

Although the Southwest stats aren't quite right. We actually have three players with over 2000 points and only one in the top 1k.

Yeah, eff it, wrong way round. Was supposed to be 1 in the top 1K, and an additional 2 with 2000+ points.

Will update, cheers for the spot

Err, Yorkshire don't have a predicted finish.

Sorry, there is - just below Anglia's write up

Nice work Maureenho.

Started FPL two years ago and did rather well (in fact, came top 1000 in the uefa CL game) but had a case of second season syndrome and fell way off. Hoping for better this year

Scotland (55) v America (56)

An outstanding performance from Barry wasn't enough to secure a victory for Scotland against an American side that just seemed to have the edge in fitness.
MOTM for America - scott4cards (74).

Meridian (57) v Midlands (56)

Pretty even matchup between the two giants. Some sterling work by SUZYKINS of Midlands was outdone by some shoddy defending at the back.
MOTM for Midlands - SUZYKINS (74).

Southwest (57) v Middle East (68)

With a clear statement of intentions, Middle East ran amok against Southwest who seemed to forget that preseason was over.Who said they were going to be pushovers? Darkplace was a menace all game, but Southwest were outdone on the counter attack more than once.
MOTM for Southwest - Darkplace (75).

Lancashire (62) v Wales (55)

A very lacklustre performance from Wales meant that Lancashire ran out comfortable and deserved winners here.
MOTM for Lancashire - ANGRY ALIEN (70).

Oceania (62) v Northwest (64)

Northwest weren't being given much of a chance before the competition started, but they've come flying out the blocks with a fantastic result against one of the favourites. Some truly fantastic performances on both sides made this a high scoring game, but dazbowski's overhead kick from outisde the area sealed it for Northwest.
MOTM for Northwest - dazbowski (89).

Anglia (57) v Asia (62)

Anglia's title challenge takes an early stumble thanks to a defeat from their closest Rivals. shaunyp had a great game for Anglia, but some outstanding teamwork by Asia was the difference on the day.
MOTM for Anglia - shaunyp (80).

London & HC (55) v Yorkshire (55)

The only draw of the weekend and a fair result. A dull game littered with errors.
MOTM for London & HC - Dronning Maud Land (71).

Nordic (57) v Irleand (58)

A lot of industry in this match, but little flair. Irleand eventually broke the deadlock in the 85th minute with a deflected header from WillyNilly.
MOTM for Ireland - WillyNilly (70).

Maureenho, great job but (and I don't want to p on your parade) I think you should hold fire until tomorrow night before confirming those results. The reason is the following section in the rules:

Quote:
Assists:

These are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team who makes the last pass before a goal is scored.

If during this pass, an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball, then no assist is given except if this intervention directly results in an own goal.

If a goalkeeper does not have control of the ball and parries a shot or drops a cross or the ball rebounds off the woodwork, the attacking player shooting or crossing the ball receives the assist if a goal directly ensues.

In the event of a penalty, the player earning the penalty gets an assist if it is successfully scored, but not if he takes it himself in which case no assist is given. No assist is given for a player who earns a free kick that subsequently results in a goal.

All assists are reviewed within 24 hours of the game finishing.

This can and does cause changes in scores upto 24 hours after the end of a Gameweek.

Not too sure how we (Anglia) only got 57 this week.

I get 62 for you based on the sub-average of the teams who beat the main average method. I'm also not sure why the London v Yorkshire game was a draw.

Those teething problems aside kudos on the effort put into the look of this game. Very purdy.

I'll look into it this afternoon and see what's up. There's some tidying up to do, as there's duplicate teams in some leagues (I've filtered them out on the spreadsheet though).

Anglia

FPL average = 46

Cloughies babes - 36 (discarded)
The XI Strangers - 48
Colossians Three23 - 54
Hoops! - 43 (discarded)
yo! - 56
Montreal Pickleheads - 49
Flaming Blahs - 57
Texas Holdems - 80
dc82 - 63
Zen Pig Flyers - 50

48 + 54 + 56 + 49 + 57 + 80 + 63 + 50 = 457

Average = 457/8 = 57.125 = 57

Have I missed something? The only thing I can really screw up is entering the numbers in wrongly, as everything else is taken care of automatically.

@ DrBunker all the averages are converted to integers by excel for the purposes of the calcucations, so an average of 55.3 is not goign to beat an average of 55.1. I suppose it's slightly less accurate, but I don't want the table cluttered up with non integer values.

Like I said a few posts ago, I'm open to suggestions on how to run this as it's a new format and I'm new to running anything. If there's any better ideas I'm all ears. If anyone wants I'll post up the calculations of scores as a spreadsheet each week, but with 200+ entrants I wasn't keen on this turning into a presentation of pages of numbers.

I thought you took the average of the league, then took the average of those above the League's average.

I mucked about with a few things. The initial idea was to use the average of everyone playing this game, and discard the scores below that, but too many people were being eliminated. The FPL average included a lot more people, so it became fairer representation, and in the long run it should be enough to keep the scores relatively even once people start losing interest in their teams etc.

By league, I mean Anglia, or Asia, not everyone involved.

Anglia's average is 53.6, so the counting scores would be 54, 56, 57, 63 and 80 giving an average (or score) of 62.

What confused us, as blahblah says, is that you said you were going to a) work out the league average b) remove the teams that didn't beat it and then C) work out the average of the remaining teams. e.g.:

Initial average = 53.6 (54)
5 teams from 10 knocked off
New average = 62

Are you're saying you've rejigged the process because the above method leads to the same score for Meridian as you get to...

I was going by the scores you put with the reviews where it said 56-55. Looking at the table I see that they both got 55 so that makes sense.

The scores in the review is a typo, my mistake.

I probably didn't explain it eloquently enough the first time, but it wasn't my intention to eliminate people based on their own league's average... it was going to be the average of everyone playing the game. That average came out in the upper 50s though (iirc), so lots of people weren't being involved, and that's hurting the community team aspect of the game I reckon. It's tricky trying to get the most appropriate balance with so many playing in some regions.

So just to clarify.

Any scores under the FPL average in a gameweek are discarded, and the league averages are then worked out from the remaining scores.

Hope we're getting somewhere now :D

Agreed. A lot of effort was put into this; Like you I just wanted to check things were working as planned. Oddly, the Meridian score is the same which ever method is used, hence my confusion! :P

Always a few things to iron out early doors on new side comps. This one is shaping up into a real goodie! Come on you Anglians!

People can join a league at any time and their scores will be used from that point forward. The more the merry.

I should point out that people should only put themselves into one league, even if you feel loyal to more than one region.

I thought you had given up on the Benelux idea, mate.

I really need there to be an even number of regions to make this work properly. An odd number of teams means that one region each week won't have a game.

It's probably too late to expect that anyone else is going to add another league at this late stage, especially as I've been asking folk to join for a few weeks now.

If no one else is forthcoming, maybe we can do a cludge fix and convert Middle East to 'Rest of the World'. It's a bit of a poor fix to be honest, but I know Ironfist has expressed concerns that there is only two in this league. A larger catchment region could attract more members.

Does that sound reasonable?

If its not too late, I could join the Middle East after all you could say I am in the middle & towards the East from UK

I'm not fussed at all about where anyone adds themselves... it's all about which region you want to represent. In an ideal situation we'd have 20 leagues that covered every geographical region in the world, with enough people in each to make it competetive everywhere. Maybe next year if this turns out to be enjoyable enough for those involved ;)

Drop yourself into Middle East by all means. I'm sure Ironfist will appreciate the company :D

Just noticed my bandwidth on photobucket has been exceeded, so that's royally screwed up all my league tables and fixtures.

Can anyone recommend image hosting doesn't have a limit?

Cheers.

I use photobucket myself and this is a slight concern as I have loads of stuff on there. However looking at the stats stuff - for a free account you can have 500Mb (I'm using around 80% but can delete a load of stuff from previous years) and 10Gb of bandwidth per month. Do you have video on there? (I only use the image side).

ImageShack is the only other one I know about and maybe MediaFire which I use for my Fixtures Grid - but I don't know how hotlinking works with them.

I can still see all of the images (even after a hard refresh). If you are using your PB for non-FISO stuff as well, just get another PB account. I never check my b/w limits but I have 2 accounts just in case.

The avatar is doing a fair bit of damage on the photobucket account.

250kb downloaded 24,000 times since I joined Dudes a month ago or something like that. Nearly 6gb of my 11gb allowance, and I'm hosting for two of the other Dudes too

A new photobucket accout for the league stuff should suffice.
