I haven't really been paying attention to this side game, but i'm definitely going to now, especially with the amount of effort being put in (well done Maureenho).

Also loving the pressure of expectancy on myself. But after a slow start my team has finally kicked into gear in the last 3 gameweeks, and i'm looking forward to being part of the team-effort that's going to push Scotland up the table!

Hope you guys like this new format. It's much easier for me to do it this way, even though it still looks like quite a lot. Previews will follow on Thursdays from now on.

Gameweek 7 Update

Image

Image

Scotland 67 : 63 Yorkshire

A good display for Scotland who continue their on/off run of form, but keep themselves in the mix at the middle of the table with a rampant win over Yorkshire. Two losses on the bounce for Yorkshire and a harsh reality check. Barry maintains his excellent form, and Phantomscythe finally hits the heights along with totempaul. Aardvark played well for Yorkshire, but it wasn't enough to prevent defeat.

Top 5

    1. Scotland - totempaul (86)
    2. Scotland - phantomscythe (86)
    3. Scotland - Barry (83)
    4. Yorkshire - Aardvark (82)
    5. Yorkshire - Anubis (71)

Asia 65 : 61 Ireland

Asia look unbeatable at the moment, and despite an under par performance, that's exactly what they remain. Ireland are struggling for for wins at the moment, but they've come up against some tough teams. They certainly can't win games if they keep playing like they did today. Asia now find themselves clear at the top of the table, courtesy of Northwest's result. Neontetra impressed impressed in an otherwise unremarkable Asia side, and has been much improved recently. Sasquatch played well for Irleand, recapturing the excellent form he showed at the beginning of the season.

Top 5

    1. Asia - Neontetra (83)
    2. Irleland - Libero's Longshots (76)
    3. Ireland - Sasquatch (72)
    4. Asia - Plasticninja (69)
    5. Asia - baganboy (67)

Northwest 64 : 64 Nordic

I've said before that Nordic are a dangerous team on their day, and Northwest found out just that today. In fairness it was a lacklustre attempt by Northwest, and Nordic capitalised for a much needed point. Northwest will be disappointed to have slipped from the top of the table, but Nordic will be over the moon at taking anything from this game. kingys boat and Green Peace were excellent for the second week on the trot, as was Remember the Titans. These guys really are in form right now. Both teams will be disappointed by poor performances by some team members, which could have been the difference between the draw and a win for either team.

Top 5

    1. Nordic - Remember the Titans (80)
    2. Northwest - Entrusted Machine (72)
    3. Northwest - Green Peace (72)
    4. Northwest - kingys boat (71)
    5. Northwest - Mintman (67)

Wales 67 : 63 London & HC

Wales have been needing a kick up the bum all season long, and after receiving it they finally had a good win last weekend, and they continue this weekend with another sensational performance. London & HC had lots of chances to win this game, with some great individual work, but they are constantly being let down with silly mistakes by other players losing concentration. For the second week in a row amg and kashdayz were outstanding, and the frustration must be be setting in as they team slumps to defeat. Wenger Boys FC was the stand out in the Wales side, who's top players are now showing the consistency needed to do well.

Top 5

    1. London & HC - kashdayz (87)
    2. Wales - Wenger Boys FC (80)
    3. London & HC - amd (79)
    4. Wales - Spudder (78)
    5. Wales - Doogal (76)

Middle East 58 : 59 Anglia

What an awful game of football this was, especially from two sides capable of much more. Middle east were served the perfect opportunity to record a momentous victory over Anglia, but instead they served up their own dog's dinner of a performance and let Anglia off the hook. That's three defeats on the trot for Middle East now, and certain areas of their team are looking suspect. I expect we'll be seeing some players on the bench soon. Anglia can breath a huge sigh of relief as this pathetic performance goes unpunished and they remain well into the title race. No individual performances worth talking about here.

Top 5

    1. Anglia - Papa Giddy (65)
    2. Anglia - keithy007 (65)
    3. Middle East - Who Gives Suffolk? (65)
    4. Anglia - fancy dan (62)
    5. Anglia - Jonathan (62)

Midlands 64 : 58 Oceania

The battle of the bottom of the table. Midlands were yet to pick up any points, and Oceania finally got off the mark last week, after 5 weeks without a single point. Any chance of carrying the momentum into the next game was well and truly snuffed out, and Midlands finally roused enough spirit to put up a fight, and actually bury Oceania with an emphatic win. Their manager's head was set for the block, but the team might just have bought him some more time. Oceania were poor from back to front, and it isn't looking good for them. SUZYKINS has been one of the few good things about the Midlands team this season, and he played an absolute blinder. owen10 lived up to his team name again this week (creme de la creme ), and these big performances helped Midlands on their way.

Top 5

    1. Midlands - SUZYKINS (89)
    2. Midlands - owen10 (86)
    3. Midlands - SOBD (76)
    4. Midlands - derbynige (72)
    5. Midlands - spinynorman (70)

Americas 61 : 63 Lancashire

Another struggling team against a suprise package pushing for a top spot, and in all honestly the result here is no surprise. Americas did work hard to keep the score respectable though, but they will be disappointed that they couldn't do more with some of the good play they had. The Lancashire boss will be furious with the shift that some of his players put in, and will surely question the commitment if they are to do well. blackmapleleaf hasn't really had much success this season, but an outstanding performance helped to keep this a tight game. vinnyutd6899 has suffered from consistency issues, but a good game today was probably enough to give Lancashire the points.

Top 5

    1. Americas - blackmapleleaf (83)
    2. Lancashire - vinnyutd6899 (75)
    3. Americas - Think Pink United (73)
    4. Lancashire - dstorey (70)
    5. Americas - TS74 (62)

Meridian 69 : 59 Southwest

Both teams sitting on the same points in midtable obscurity, and both has suffered mixed fortunes recently. Meridian would have been gutted to lose to bottom of the table Oceania last week, and someone has obviously had a word in their ear. I said the big guns would have to start firing, and they certainly declared war on Southwest this week... they never stood a chance, and the the defence just crumbled under the barrage. Player of the week, DanCaek, has been quiet this season, but he must have washed his feet in holy water this week, as his skills on the ball were breathtaking. AKNel1, uppompei, and albionjulie have also been quiet so far this season, but they answered the call this week to secure an easy victory for Meridian.

Top 5

    1. Meridian - DanCaek (92) - *PLAYER OF THE WEEK*
    2. Meridian - AKNel1 (86)
    3. Meridian - uppompei (82)
    4. Meridian - albionjulie (81)
    5. Southwest - ashers1981 (79)

I think the new format is great, it must still take you ages to do but it's just as enjoyable to look at.

Good result Meridian, we'll soon be in our rightful place at the top of the table :D

Gameweek 8 Preview

Image

Ireland v Scotland

Both teams sitting midtable, and both will be looking for a win here. Ireland have lost two on the bounce, and were squarely beaten in both games against a top team, and a team that are just finding form. Scotland seem to be finding their feet at the moment with some great performances in the last three matches, and were unlucky to have picked up only four points.

Prediction: Away Win (tight)

Nordic v Yorkshire

Overperforming Yorkshire face a struggling Nordice. Yorkshire were shocked by Scotland last week, and certain areas of their team will have to perform much better if they are to get back to winning ways. Nordic might take heart from a good result againt the league leaders last week, but there are some liabilities in the team. If they can perform as a unit they have a chance, otherwise they aren't going to get anywhere.

Prediction: Away Win

London & HC v Asia

London have shown they can win matches when they get it together, but they seem to struggle with such a large squad. The Asians are a compact, skilled unit with no such problems, and I can't look past them in this one.

Prediction: Away Win

Anglia v Northwest

Big match this one. Northwest need to recover fast from losing top spot last weekend, and it won't be easy against the league favourites. Like all the best teams, Anglia were rotten last week, and still managed to get a win. They aren't going to play poor and pick up wins against the likes of Northwest though.

Prediction: Home Win

Oceania v Wales

Everything has clicked into place for Wales over the last week or two, and the early season cobwebs seem to have been dusted off at last. Oceania picked up their only win of the season two weeks ago, and promptly lost to bottom of the table Midlands the week later. It's hard to pinpoint what's going wrong with them... the manager sure as heck doesn't know.

Prediction: Away Win

Lancashire v Middle East

Lancashire have been very consistent this season, and that sees them sitting in the top quarter of the table. Not the best game last week, but they did well enough to win, and that's what matters. Middle East need to hit the brakes, and fast, as they continue to slide down the table. They've been unfortunate though, and I hear they have been trying some new moves in training, so this week could be a new dawn.

Prediction: Home Win

Southwest v Midlands

Southwest have shown in patches what they are capable of, but they struggle to produce the consistency required to make headway in the league. Some are saying that Midlands stood in dogsh*t last weekend, and there win was nothing but luck, but it was a suprisingly convincing win from a team that have struggled to show any good signs. The size of their squad causes them problems, but once something that big starts moving in one direction in can often be hard to stop it.

Prediction: Draw

Meridian v Americas

The Meridian lot had a grin on their faces last weekend, as the performance finally lived up to their self-imposed "top 4" billing. It remains to be seen whether they can make it that far, but they have some players coming through at the right time and showing how much the results mean to them. The Americas have been largely disappointing so far, seemingly unstuited to the pace of this league, despite having some quality players. It's another week near the bottom of the table for them in my opinion.

Prediction: Home Win

If no one cares I'm going to join the Americas.

And if you care, well hell, I'll probably do it anyway.

I noticed that me good mate, chotasahib, was in the mini and it seemed like it might be worth a giggle. He's only a point ahead of me so I'll slot in reasonably. It'll give us two leagues to argue about too...

Good to see more people getting onboard. We had about 3 or 4 other new recruits last week on top of those who've posted about joining. Remember folks, you can join in at any point in the season.

Because there's only 16 teams we're going to be finishing 8 weeks shy of the actual FPL season end, so I'll see if I can get a cup competition knocked up for those final 8 weeks to keep things going.

The league will end in gw30, so there will be a break for a week, then the format can be as follows

gw32 - Round 1, leg 1
gw33 - Round 1, leg 2
gw34 - Quarter Finals, leg 1
gw35 - Quarter Finals, leg 2
gw36 - Semi Finals, leg 1
gw37 - Semi Finals, leg2
gw38 - Cup Final

Brings the competition to a nice finalé. Hopefully next year there will be 20 regions competing and this could be run in tandem with the league.

Gameweek 8 Update

Image

Image

Ireland 58 : 60 Scotland

I predicted a tight away win, and that's exactly what we got here. Despite some particularly bright individual moments from the Irish boys, Scotland's overall teamplay pulled them through here, and they are beginning to look like a strong unit. Ireland need to stamp out the errors as they go three games now without any points, whilst Scotland are getting into gear with two wins in a row thanks to the inspired leadership of Barry who is proving to be one of the world's best players right now, let alone Scotland. lucanjerry extends a good run of form, but it wasn't enough today.

Top 5

    1. Ireland - lucanjerry (85)
    2. Scotland - Barry (81)
    3. Ireland - bossdrum (79)
    4. Ireland - amcal59 (78)
    5. Ireland - The Best! Arou-ound! (77)

Nordic 72 : 59 Yorkshire

I predicted an away win here, and I'm rather pleased to have been proved wrong and have my preseason predictions affirmed. Deadly on their day, the Nordic boys produced a breathtaking performance, in what turned out to be an exhibition match. I cited some liabilities last weekend, and that seemed to be enough to spur the whole team into action and move Nordic even further up the table. Yorkshire's early form has deserted them as they slump to their third defeat on the bounce and find themselves in the bottom half of the table. Cliffard silenced the critics with a great game, and his teammates will welcome more of the same. Indy_Bones never made the first team last week, but he was back with a bang today.

Top 5

    1. Nordic - Cliffard (84)
    2. Nordic - Abumies (82)
    3. Yorkshire - Indy_Bones (74)
    4. Yorkshire - greebynog (73)
    5. Yorkshire - stozzysizzlers (68)

London & HC 60 : 56 Asia

One of the shock results this week, as I never gave London & HC a chance here. Asia found out that complacency will lose you matches in a hurry, and London & HC were happy to capitalise. I'm sure the London & HC team will be thoroughly ecstatic with the win against the high flyers, and Asia will be gutted with this dent to their campaign that knocks them off the top spot. RomynPG has been improving recently and was supercharged to give a game winning performance here. plasticninja was excellent for the Asians again, one of the main reasons they have been doing so well of late.

Top 5

    2. London & HC - elfrules (82)

Anglia 57 : 52 Northwest

I predicted a home win here; dubious due to Anglia's dodgy form of late, but still expected a great game between two great sides. Wrong on one count, this was a dull game where both teams cancelled each other out for much of the game, with Anglia managing to pull through with yet another dodgy performance. Those Anglians have undeniable talent, and have proved over the last couple of weeks that they have the character and strenght of mind to win these tricky matches. Northwest might be feeling the pressure at the top as they slip up in consecutive weeks. Neither teams played to their potential today, but one team won't be caring too much. odelay provides another good performance for the Anglians and is one of their main strengths right now. Saint Scooby hasn't been great this season, but was the best for the Northwest outfit as some of the big boys just didn't turn up.

Top 5

    1. Anglia - odelay (71)
    2. Northwest - Saint Scooby (69)
    3. Anglia - Jonathan (68)
    4. Anglia - dc82 (58)
    5. Northwest - Green Peace (54)

Oceania 55 : 65 Wales

Away win predicted here, and duly delivered. The Wales mob can do no wrong at the moment, taking their tally to three in a row. Oceania are a team in trouble, and just haven't been able make any headway since getting their first win of the season. One win from seven says it all, and they'll be hoping for one of the bottom clubs to come along soon to get any chance of a morale boosting win. Wales go from strength to strength and are beginning to challenge the top four. aussiegunner was sublime for Oceania this week, and it's embarassing to watch one man try to singlehandedly win the game for his team. jags is a recent aquisition for Wales and produced another fine display along with many others in the team, which ultimately meant that Oceania really had no chance.

Top 5

    1. Oceania - aussiegunner (93) *PLAYER OF THE WEEK*
    2. Wales - jags (91)
    3. Wales - Nedved_Cannon (90)
    4. Wales - grob (88)
    5. Oceania - liverlittle (77)

Lancashire 66 : 52 Middle East

I want to have hope for Middle East, but realistically the home win was always an eventuality. Silent assassins, the Lancashire team have worked their way to the top of the table with minimal fuss, winning games comfortably and without expectation. It's hard to see how they went so far under the radar in preseason, but these boys truly are capable of winning the whole thing. Middle East struggle yet again, their weakness in depth being exposed again. dave t had a good game, indicative of his season so far. Ironfist was the shining light in the Middle East team, but some way off what is required at this level. He'll be disappointed with his recent form, but he's moving in the right direction.

Top 5

    1. Lancashire - dave t (73)
    2. Lancashire - hifromsiriam (68)
    3. Lancashire - vinnyutd6689 (63)
    4. Lancashire - ANGRY ALIEN (62)
    5. Middle East - Ironfist (59)

Southwest 60 : 59 Midlands

A draw was predicted here, and we weren't far off there with Southwest sneaking a win in what was a less in poor defending. Midlands had much of the play, but their porous back line continues to cause them all sorts of problems. Southwest weren't much different at the back, but found just enough up front to tilt the balance in their favour. I said that Midlands might have found some momentum with their win last week, but the giants tripped on their own shoe laces. Southwest wil take a win by hook or by crook, and they'll not be too fussed about how they've managed to win. Colbert has been the impressing this season, and he's hel[ed to drag Southwest over the finish line with some good work this week. justyncredibles impressed for the Midlands, but all that hard work was for naught as some of his team let him down badly.

Top 5

    1. Southwest - Colbert (85)
    2. Midlands - Justyncredibles (82)
    3. Midlands - owen10 (73)
    4. Midlands - businessbadboy (73)
    5. Southwest - Darkplace (71)

Meridian 53 : 63 Americas

Meridian have been making noises recently and I expected them to go into this one full of confidence and take a home win, but it turned out to be another shock result with Americas chalking up an easy victory in the end. Some will say they got ahead of themselves, but in truth they would have to have put on some show to beat an American side that battled harder than they have before. The Americas desperately needed a win to stay in touch in this league, and they find themselved just outside the main pack now. Meridian's revival was ended as soon as it started, but I think they'll put this one behind and look to the encouraging signs from some of their squad. Think Pink United has been producing the goods all season, and turns up her best performance to date. Spencer4 has been surprisingly anonymous for Meridian this season, but he'll be hoping to boost Meridian in the future with a few more games like this.

Top 5

    1. Americas - Think Pink United (88)
    2. Americas - SunderlandFan (83)
    3. Americas - Rusty Nail FC (83)
    4. Americas - TS74 (80)
    5. Meridian - Spencer4 (77)

Great to score high points in arguably one of our biggest wins so far (and this week). A good number of players really fired up to deliver the goods, and no longer are we aiming to finish mid-table like last year so watch out top 4!

Despite the loss and awful recent performances, this competition is by far the most enjoyable due to the commentary and analysis :)

Trounced by a couple of girls too

Despite my contribution (or lack thereof  ), nice win for Americas after a series of narrow defeats.
