FPL 9-Ball TournamentAll entrants are now in and the draw has been made for round 1The Game:The game is played as if both players are playing 9-ball on tables, side by side, player 1 just ahead of player 2.
Rules:1. The 9-ball must be potted to win.
2. Balls are potted in numerical order, starting at 1, by picking an FPL player that outscores your ball number.
This continues until someone pots the 9-ball or the time limit for a game is reached
3. Player selection for your head-to-head MUST be different from your opponent. First to post will have priority.
Scoring:Entrants score by selecting ONE player from the next FPL fixtures to represent their attempt to pot a ball.
If your selection scores
MORE THAN the current ball number, your pot is successful:
If this pot was the 9-ball, you've won!, otherwise a 'Skill Shot' is awarded
If your selection scores 0 or less, your shot is deemed a 'foul'.
A "Free Pot" award is given to your opponent, if they are on the 9-ball you've probably just lost!
You lose any "Free Pot" award you have
Other scores, your pot misses:
If you have a "Free Pot" award, your initial miss is 'fluked' and becomes a pot
Missing or duplicate entries will score 0 and a "Free Pot" awarded to your opponent.
Skill Shots:When a player successfully pots their ball, excluding a 'fluke', the actual score of the FPL player will also be taken into account as a skillful canon shot.
Additional scoring will be applied as follows:
If the player scores exactly 9, you've also potted the 9-ball to win!
Your highest value unpotted ball, up to the 8-ball, which is less than or equal to the FPL players score is also potted.
If you have no unpotted ball matching the previous rule, your skill shot misses
Free Pots:When a selected FPL player scores 0 or less your opponent will get a "Free Pot" award which will turn their next miss into a 'fluked' pot, provided they score more than 0.
Only one "Free Pot" award can be active at any time per game and it is carried over until used.
Order of Play:This is important for the overall scoring - it gives players a chance at a direct pot before any skill shots are applied.
Play will be in the following order using all the rules mentioned above: "Free Pot" awards are played as soon as a miss occurs.
Player 1 'Skill Shot' award
Player 2 'Skill Shot' award
Time Limit:I will allow a maximum of 6 gameweeks to complete a game. After 6 gameweeks, the game winner will be decided as follows:
The player with the most balls potted
The player with the highest potted ball number, working back from the 8-ball until a winner is found
The player quickest to the highest potted ball, based on order of play, if both players potted balls are the same
Keeping trackI will keep track of balls potted and remind players what ball number they are trying to pot each week and the scoreboard will also show balls potted by each player.
The quickest win will be to find a player who scores 9 points in a gameweek to sink that all important 9-ball as a 'skill shot'.
