Lots of people considering, & posting their wildcard teams at the minute - but surely its madness to wildcard now?

We already know who the players are, Vorm, Kompany, Silva, Nani,Bale, RVP etc and by default most of us will have a team loaded with these sorts of players. Ive looked at my own and could even go as far as avoiding a 16pt hit - mostly to reorganise a subs bench with the likes of Lindegard, Pilkington, Shotton, Caulker et al but surely its worth considering waiting to see what the January sales bring?

Thierry Henry is to be returning (at what price?), Podolski, Hulk, Hazard, (Will Tevez move?), even this Sigurdsson chap at Swansea on the other end all possible. Maybe Spurs will buy KaKa

Better to wait??

Whatever January sales bring, these players would have to (i) establish themselves for 90 min; (ii) avoid injury/fatigue in the first few games and (iii) prove not to be another Drenthe/Carroll/Arshavin/Pavlyuchenko when they switch clubs.

I will most certainly wait since I have good team on paper and I don't think a GW like that can happen two weeks in a row. Besides, we all knew once or twice a year GWs like this come with injuries/fatigues/transfers/formation-experimentation of the main players and 5 min of fame for some players.

Got to say i'm holding fire to see what the next couple GW's bring. Had a shocker so far but can improve with a lucky Spurs/Evertongame. There are lots of moves to make and usually at the last minute so i think it makes sense to hold back.

This is not a religious cult where everyone must follow the leader, you use it when you want, you have it available for 3 gws, its not a big issue to hold it to the last moment.

Some will want to freshen up and get straight after gambling on the double week, others will want to hold it for as late as possible to show will power, others will get no use out of it at all because their teams are good anyway, some will want to use it as they are doing badly and want to change their luck.

There is no right or wrong I guess.

No.

Therapeutic, fulfilling, cleansing.

There is not much transfer activity these days when these windows close, so unless you want all the new transfers right away then it doesn't particularly matter when you use it. And the one or two that do stand out can be brought in within a couple of weeks of the deadline ending anyway.

Yes. The early knee jerkers cause the more measured players unnecessary price change problems and rarely prosper as a result!

So perhaps it's not a bad collaborative tactic for the underdogs then

I'd be ecstatic if my January sales player turned out to have the impact Arshavin did in 2009 upon his arrival at Arsenal...

Given that there are no games for a while, I had considered trying to use my wildcard last week to in an "international break" type move.

I didn't but would that have even worked ?

My teams looked fine for this week and next week. I am thinking I will use it the week after next as my team looks rotten for that gameweek. I doubt there will be that much trasfer activity that I would need a major reshuffle post wildcard anyway as most of the players I have or will bring in will still play.

Henry doesnt interest me in the slightest and i bet none of those
other you mentioned will come to the PL this January. The January transfer window is quite often built up but nothin usually much happens (bar the Suarez, Carroll, Torres moves last season but that was down to new owners etc) I bet if you checked last season after the transfer window i bet most people didnt have more than 1 player who was transfered in January in their team. The odd player or 2 will be easy enough to incorporate in your team without the wildcard.

Like Hans mention, it's basically down to how your team looks now.

But I'm planning on using it when GW23 is being played out.

- Liverpool vs City in the Carling Cup: Whoever goes through will have their game in GW26 postponed.
- Transfer window will be closed
- Gives you time to save a transfer and possibly have a 1 GW punt on 2 players for GW23.

So, with Kompany and Jagielka red flagged and a doubt over Silva and Sturridge means I am now seriously considering playing my WC.

Anyone else changed their mind following the Kompany red card? I can see a potential flurry of activity after tomorrow's night games but unfortunately, no stand out risers to jump on (already got Sessegnon).

Maybe no stand-out risers, but potentially a few falling stars, not to mention all the Fool's Gold that was bought in from Goodison Park ahead of the DGW.

What's the doubt over Silva?

His ankle. From BBC web-site earlier today:

Quote:
In addition to awaiting news of Vincent Kompany's appeal against a four-match ban, Manchester City have injury doubts over David Silva (ankle) and strikers Edin Dzeko (knee) and Mario Balotelli (ankle) ahead of tomorrow's Carling Cup semi-final first-leg against Liverpool at the Etihad. Kolo and Yaya Toure are away on international duty but Gareth Barry is available after suspension.

Cash-wise this was a solid GW for wildcarding, I got in three double risers (Yakubu, Sess and Walker) and I won't be keeping any of them so it's a 0.3 profit. Actually the Yak is close to a quadruple rise but I think he'll just miss it. Will still wait til the last minute to sell for Rooney though.

The downside is that my mates will see my new team before they do their Jan wildcards. I fully expect them to copy my budget defense because they don't waste as much time researching everything.
