I have just acquired one.

Does anyone have any interesting (food related only, please) ideas of what to use it for?

And straight away we are off the food topic, so you are blended with yoghurt, and some Kiwi 8-)

Yep Murf right cannot beat a nice smoothie - honey and a few oats too to add some texture.

Anyone tried mead by the way?

It has a blender bit, so smoothies are a (may I say rather obvious) idea, unless there is a delicious smoothy

What's green and goes red in 3 seconds ?

A frog in a blender.

Genuine uses

Making breadcrumbs - much easier if the bread is frozen
Making biscuit crumbs (for Cheesecake bases etc)
Blitzing Soup
Making Curry pastes
Making Chinese Marinades

To be fair, it's a fairly overrated piece of kit. Good at what it does but not essential. Was it an Anniversary present

No, I have wanted one for a while to make soups, smoothies etc. I have an idea of avoiding all processed food, well as much as possible....... I have mastered rustic garlic bread, burgers, and very nearly pizza bases (calzones and fancy garlic bread).

Breadcrumbs is an excellent idea, and will google for Chinese marinades.

Rostis were easy. Just to try it out etc.

Spud and carrot through the grater attachment, squeezed in tea towel, then 5 mins fried in some olive oil........

Rosti's should be made with cooked Potato not raw. Baked the Potato, allow to cool, peel the skin off, grate, fry in a hot pan with hot oil until golden brown, toss and repeat previous step. Top with a fried or poached egg.

What you describe is a Potato Galette rather than a Rosti. Although to be wholly accurate it would be a Straw Potato Galette (as you used grated, straw like, potato) rather than the more traditional thin slice.

Common error, many years ago I work in Switzerland (Zurich) which is the home of the Rosti. Made enough of the bloody things then to last a lifetime.

Throwing in a bit of ham or crispy bacon also works a treat

To be honest, FF is probably the bottom of the list of my reasons for using FISO

I have always wondered what the best method to pull a Scottish lass was - thanks for the tip! (and I thought it was deep fried mars bars)

I understand the peanuts and sunflower seeds are optional, some Scottish birds think they are poncey and unecessary, preferring offerings of straight lard.
