Wales outside the top 10,000?
We need to improve that!

End of January update - boy have things changed since I last reviewed the regions before Christmas! London have rocketed into the lead from nowhere, but the competition is really hotting up with Oceania, Americas, RotW and the Midlands all within the top 1000 leagues in the world. The Scots have pulled their finger out, so much so that they are ahead of Anglia and the South Coast and are threatening the North, but Wales are looking destined for the wooden spoon at this stage.

End of March update - London are now targeting the top 10 in the world, sitting as they are in 55th globally at present. The Midlands (243), Oceania (165) and the Rest of the World (189) are still chasing and are all within the world top 250. Scotland have made huge advances, going up 1,637 places into 339th and catching up on the Americas who sit in 269 currently. Anglia have also bucked their ideas up as they were well outside the top 5,000 last time we checked - the Easterners are now just within the top 2000 at 1,955. The South Coast are getting closer to the North (the only region to fall down the rankings), 1,663rd to 1,341st, while Wales have improved to get in the top 5000 at 4,037 but are still bottom of the pile by some distance.

End of April - As the season draws to a close, many of the leagues are struggling to contine onwards motion, with many of the leagues, including leaders London at 83rd now, losing ground in the overall World standings. Oceania, however have closed the gap to London with a jump up to 149th globally. The Americas have taken advantage of the Midlands and the RotW's poor form to go to 3rd within FISO, now at 258. Wales are trying to claw back some respectability by moving more a grand and a half positions and into 2,526th.

NEXT SEASON:

While I don't mind continuing this 'lite' version of the Regionals, if anyone would like to volunteer to run a more thorough sidegame, please step forward. Regarding the make-up of the regions, consider the numbers of participants:

Americas - 20 teams
Anglia - 11
LondonHC - 37
Midlands - 30
North - 11
Oceania - 28
Scotland - 18
South Coast - 20
Wales - 12
Yorkshire - 4 *Unranked
Rest of the World - 13

Now, clearly Yorkshire either needs to recruit more teams (unlikely?) or merge with another region and the obvious one for me would be the North. Also, do we think the London league is too big?

Just joined Yorkshire. (Not sure it'll help, though)

Hey Taca, thanks for running this (however light on updates it was) !!

I will no longer be eligible for Oceana membership as I have move back home to sunny England so someone will need to take this league on next season.

I am now living in London but from Yorkshire (a proud Leeds lass  ) so would be another +1 for Yorkshire next season....

Strictly speaking it should be location of residence, but I suppose exceptions could be made in order to achieve balance. I think, though, realistically Yorkshire will probably have to merge with the North in the end - it surprises me greatly how few Northerners there are.

One thing to keep in mind is that adding all the regions together, there are actually more people involved in this than in the 5AS or Divisionals, it's a sleeping giant in some respects!
