Can you check the FPL website too, because I am sure some malicious/suspicious dibbo keeps logging in and messing with my team

Thanks for jumping on this so quickly - just going to check my bank account is still intact! :D

None of the drop down menus work on the new posts page - is it temporary as part of the clean up operation or something else?

Malware on my work pc - caused it to crash and flagged warning of attempts to download data. IT took away my PC and in fact gave me a brand new one but will not be able to log on to FISO again at work, can't really risk it (unless there was a good reason a one off). First time ever that I received a virus of any type.

That's my productivity up 7625%.

People will have to bear with me for updates on games etc and will only be responding in the evenings to posts.

It appears that hackers had exploited a security flaw last night in the old archived copy of the pipsuite forum but this was stamped out quickly this morning by fiso's server consultant.

I've also deleted the old archive forum copies so that hackers can't exploit any security flaws anymore. It's a pity that the record of fiso's first 7 years of forum posts are no longer displayed on the web but I don't want to take any risks on this happening again.

Anyone running up to date internet security software shouldn't have been affected.

Any suggestions as to who would want to hack FISO, or simply malevolent hackers with nothing better to do.

My Pc received the spyware virus 'system tool 2011' this morning. Took ages to get rid of it.
AVG doesn't seem to detect it.
Malwarebytes apparently removed it

I use avast(free) which blocked it.

I noticed the java icon come up in the tray last night just before the threat manifestied itself. I've encountered this type of virus before.

Make sure you update your adobe, macromedia flash etc to the very latest versions as older versions of these programs leave your PC's much more prone to exploitation.

In addition run an anti virus that scans your boot sectors - I prefer Avira free. As others have mentioned the latest version of malwarebytes (with latest definitions downloaded) is a must.

A general cleanup and registry cleaner is "advanced system care" or ccleaner.

The infected file showed up at 11.45am this morning according to avast statistics so maybe the java icon was just a standard update?

I started a thread about this virus just after 11pm last night post1692102.html#p1692102
It was driving me nuts

As I did so,I saw Chuck Taylor had also started one about the same problem, saying he thought he'd solved it,but he hadn't.

I didn't dare come on Fiso this morning, after being up all night trying the suggested solutions,so I took my laptop to a computer repair specialist and got it back this evening, with a bill for £39 for fixing it added to which a further £15 in taxi fares

Although Admin's suggested an anti virus installation should eliminate it,it doesn't as I have a daily noon scan by AVG,though now that I know the source of the problem, perhaps if I'd waited until after my AVG scan at noon,it would have caught it ?
In fact I've just remembered that one of the infected files was said last night to be my AVG monitor file or something similar, but I couldn't carry out an AVG scan last night as it was evidently disabled.

What I'm now wondering, approx £55 poorer for this extremely nasty experience and sleepless night,is whether if I'd known what this thread is now telling me,and avoided logging on to Fiso today (which I didn't),the problem would have resolved itself without the need for me to have done anything,or would the infection have still caused problems for me ?

As mentioned on my other thread,I googled this last night "System Tool is a rogue anti-spyware infection which uses highly aggressive marketing tactics such as system tray security alerts, pop ups and bogus system scans containing false results, all designed to entice you to purchase a full version of "System Tools"

Will look at putting the drop downs back tomorrow. They are there if you go to any non-forum page e.g. http://www.fiso.co.uk/categories/4/Fant ... tball.html

Some virus' exploit vulnerabilities in older versions of Java - we're all guilty of not downloading "yet another" seemingly needless update. In fact i learnt to my peril that the older the versions you have the more at risk you are.

The Java icon should close when the Java requiring program/site closes. So if it pops up unexpetedly close the offending proggy/site and run your virus scans.

No it wouldn't have resolved itself. Once it had got into your pc it had to be removed regardless of any fiso action, which was too late to help you (or me).
The avg file wouldn't have been infected - that is one of the lies of the malware - but it would be blocked from opening though I found avg didn't detect the virus anyway.

Many thanks for that simple clarification, dead parrot,it makes me feel a bit better to know that I did need to remove it.
There may have been other ways of doing so,as MM has suggested on my other thread, but I didn't know that until now and was desperate to get back on line as I need to know if del Horno is one of the many players now injured, as most of Chelsea's key players seem to be

del horno possibly injured? It appears that the aforementioned seven years of fiso posts might not have been lost after all.

avast on the machine i've been using today worked very well, blocked all threats. First time i can recall this sort of thing happening on fiso - thanks to those who sorted it out - and i wish i had that sort of expertise.

There's an ongoing discussion about this on the thread I'd started on Tuesday night about this,
system-tool-removal-help-please-t81108.html
including a suggestion that Fiso cookies could be a factor and I mentioned that for several days prior to the virus strike last night(Tuesday) I was receiving Microsoft /Windows notices telling me that "Internet Explorer has stopped working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available".
I'd press "Close programme",the box would vanish, but keep returning, and it's happening again now - I have just realised only when I came to collect my Fiso e-mail notices of new posts tonight, having been offline all day so there were a lot of them !
I'm using Orange webmail,IE8,Vista. Is there a clue here as I'm no expert ?

Did any information ever get turned up by this? Who? Why? etc

Quite embarrassing that I contracted something when I am implanted in a client's office with their network and hardware.

Don't want to cause alarm unnecessarily but virus could be back. JAVA/Agent.IR detected whilst on here. Running scans and malwarebytes now.

If you dont have norton antivirus and you see "norton security scan" icon/program, your computer is probably infected. You need to remove it from the add/remove programs or use www.revounistaller.com to remove unwanted programs
