Hi all

Before I set up the H2H leagues I thought I'd ask for feedback on how it worked last season. So any ideas or opinions are welcome.

My main issues with last year are...

It was very difficult for me to tell who was who in each league because I didn't know your FISO names so I need to find a way of showing this when I post the leagues on here.
I feel this affected the banter throughout the season.

All 4 leagues didn't get the maximum (36 teams) entries so maybe this time we should set up one league at a time and start a new one after each league fills up.

On the point of 36 teams... last season I set the leagues up so that in the last 3 GWs of the season, the top 8 went into a knockout phase to find the winner.
Did people like this or should I just make it a straight 38 team league where you play each other once over the season?

Please feel free to post your opinions or ideas on what I've said or anything else.

Hopefully with your feedback I can work out a better way of presenting the leagues this season and we all enjoy it more.

Many thanks in advance.

Rich

Restrict it to 20 per League, so we play home and away?

That could work BB... although I think it would need to be restricted to 3 or 4 leagues. We could then do a promotion/relegation type thing like the egg cup? Basically run it like a proper real life football league. :?:

You could make us post our username and team in a list instead, then PM the code as and when. Would stop lurkers joining as well.

All 4 leagues didn't get the maximum (36 teams) entries so maybe this time we should set up one league at a time and start a new one after each league fills up.

Yes, and if you made us join by list that would be easily controlled.

Did people like this or should I just make it a straight 38 team league where you play each other once over the season?

You have three viable options as I see it:

1) Stay with last season - 36 with top 8 po's
2) 20 team league, straight home-away programme
3) 18 team leagues, home-away then top 8 in po's, require the league(s) starting on GW2 though.

Please feel free to post your opinions or ideas on what I've said or anything else.

Hope that helps. Just another thought: You could also ask people for the first part of their postcode, and have that on the league tables, so we'll know where the local derbies are.

Re. having hierarchical league might be very hard to administer, and we already have a pro/reg sidegame, the 'Divisional Championship', and that's the daddy! You could have a Cup competition, possibly using the postcode idea above to ensure local derbies.

Yep, but doesn't have to be limited to 3 or 4 leagues. Just needs someone in each division to set it up...........

The thing is... last season, I added all the leagues into one thread so we could see what was going on in each league and I don't want to make too much work for myself because I have my other sidegame to run as well.

This could be its own subforum,

I reckon you would only need to worry about the Division you are in, as the others would look after themselves. I think that the promotion/relegation thing would make it more high profile. Maybe 4 up and down for a few seasons?

Thanks for the feedback Tacalabala.... much appreciated and some interesting ideas.

I completely agree about the Divisional Championship - It's my fave FPL sidegame and I certainly wouldn't want to encroach on Reds' game, although this is a season long league with promotions and relegations happening at the end of the season so it is slightly different.

Do others think it would be too similar?

Cheers

This is H2H, and as you say season long.

One idea is to start up a joining thread where people post their last few seasons rankings, so the top start at the top. League's could be allocated by PM'ing the codes, so people joined the right League

Fiso H2H 'D' -Runner up (I think) Quite enjoyed this game last season mainly due to the Totempoles going for a 1,2,3.

I'm liking that BB... maybe just post their rank from last season would do.

As I said though, I have a lot of pre-season work to do on my TFF/FPL Combo so maybe you could help me out on this?

If we rank everyone based on last year and then set up the leagues, it's going to mean a hell of a lot of PMs and checking just before the season starts. Plus we would need a volunteer to set up each new league.

I really would like to make this work better than it did last season but I don't want to over complicate things if it's too much work...

Up for it?

OK, it seems to be front-loaded for effort.

You can do the Joining Up thread, it would spoil me reputation if I did it

Say best two seasons scores are needed?

Obviously second seasoners can just post last seasons.

I will sort out the Leagues............
I'll do one of the lower leagues

20 people league's are the best IMO, play each other twice during the season.

I'm with those who fancy the 20-league being the best solution, just be aware that if you want to set it up so that everyone plays everyone else once in the league it's got to be 39 and not 38 teams

I thought I'd bump this again to see if there's any more input... Sorry to be pushy (and I'm sure there's many regular posters that are away on holibobs etc.) but I'd rather get this up and running ASAP to give blahblah and myself time to sort things out.

I'd prefer straight-up 20 or 39 man leagues (no play-offs). I think if you try and seed teams into promotion and relegation leagues you could end up with a nightmare of teams not entering the right leagues which will mess everything up.

The plan is to do some form of ranking for the first season, and have someone from that League to PM the PIN for the leagu to the managers, with no PIN's appearing here.

I favour the 20 team version, with 4 or 5 up and down; then after a few seasons, make it 3 up/down?
