also:

Annie Hall

Film4, Sunday, 2nd., 11:10pm - 12:55am

I've just noticed that a certain film is on (UK) tv shortly:

Naqoyqatsi: BBC2, Sunday 01 April, 1:20am - 2:45am.

I've never seen it, but I loved the two predecessors in the trilogy.
Essentially, it's arty film shots cut to music by Phillip Glass. If you are still up, give it 20 mins and see if it grabs you or not. 8-)

I saw one of the trilogy, lots of Grand Canyon in it, and I liked it.

Got all 3 in a box set. Still think Koyaanisqatsi is better than the other 2. One of my favourite films.

All about "Life out of balance".

(edit: had to go and check spelling!)

I have to say, Naqoyqatsi was a big disappointment to me. I just felt they forcing the issue. The shots weren't of the same quality as the first two and there was too much reliance on (already outdated) computer manipulation.

Still highly recommend the first two, though: Koyanaanisqatsi and Powersqatsi are awe inspiring. :)

A mate at work introduced me to Koyanaanisqatsi. I went round his and put it on to watch while I waited for him to get ready before we went out. We ended up being an hour late meeting everyone in the pub and spent the night talking about the film instead.
Brilliant.
The time-capture technique has been used a lot since this film was made, but it still avoids looking old-hat.

There are some truly awesome scenes in the first two films, and I use the word 'awesome' guardedly!
The sequence of the young Asian girl driving her cart through city streets while her father sleeps is etched into my mind forever, as is that of the casino (?) girls in LA. As they stare into the lens they seem to open a gateway into their hearts and souls and the time-capture allows you to absorb every nuance of every line in their faces. Utterly absorbing, extremely stimulating viewing.

The Godfather I and II are on Sky next weekend. And from the sublime to the ridiculous ... so is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire!

Are you sure? I bet you use it every other word. Hanging around the Hebrides, dressed like Bill & Ted, catching some totally gnarly waves, high-fiving all the passing fishermen and skateboarding to the pub with Mrs McCrimble the baker's wife.
Awesome, dude!

p.s. to keep it on topic, Bourne Identity was on ITV2/3/4 or something last night. The sequel (Bourne Supremecy) is on tonight. Quite like the films (a bit more like classic european espionage films than the polished Bond fare of late) although I've not got much time for Mr Damon, can't watch him without thinking of his "Team America" manikin (spelling?).

What is this? 'Harange a Hebridean Day'?
And I'll have you know Mrs. McCrimble's Rhubarb McCrumble is a little bit of Heaven on a plate!

Wandering off-topic for a mo ...... while I accept - even enjoy - the fact that language is dynamic it does irk me that superlatives are used too freely today. It devalues the currency and make us all poorer for it. :(

Absolutely excellent point, dude, fantastically made. I'm going to seek out a thread about lazy language and if not, totally start a new one.

just thought i would note that True Romance, currently on sky "modern" (huh ?), is a classic.

big decisions looming in a few minutes when natural born killers kicks off on film4

edit: big decisions ... made the switch. will probably bounce between the two. tv scheduling shocker!

I love 'True Romance'. It's one of my favourite films.
The scene between Walken and Hopper is pure cinematic artistry.

If you hold down Control while you're typing, it overrides the profanity filter.

Tonight BBC1 about 12.15 - Freebie and the bean
My judgement might be clouded by the fact the last time I saw it I was 12 years old and was probably excited about getting into a X (18) film for the first time
Haven't seen it since, so hoping it's as good as I remember?

Probably really embarrassing as it's early 70's

American History X is on bbc2 tonight - worth a watch imo, Ed Norton is a great actor, there is one really horrible scene though, so turn away when you here him say "bite the kerb"
