Dear Fiso Elite League Members

I’m launching a new cup competition to run alongside the Fiso Elite league and Fiso Champs League that is open to Fiso Elite League members.

If it proves a success I’ll keep it going in future seasons.

It’ll run along similar lines to (probably) the world’s best knockout competition, the FA Cup, and I thought Fiso Elite Fantasy Addicts Cup would be a suitable name. (Alternative names are welcomed.) It’s a knockout competition with a potential replay after each round (including semis and final).

I thought this competition would provide some interest to people lower down in the Fiso league. For example they may be stacked with players from teams who take the FA Cup seriously while those at the top might have players who are likely to be rested. It’ll also raise interesting possibilities if, say, Wigan and Barnsley get to the final: if you are near the top of the Fiso League do you go heavy on Wigan at the last transfer window and risk the league prize?

Sorry, there’ll be no cup but there will be a tasty £35 for the winner and £15 for the runner up which I’ll be funding myself from my end of season winnings. £50 because I’m 50 in January!

The competition details

All dates and rounds will match those of the FA Cup


Matches will be played as follows:

2nd round draw
Friday 2 Dec

This will be made from the minnows (potential giant killers!) lying in 52 to 75 of the Elite League on that date. If there are any outstanding scoring anomalies I’m still taking the Friday league as the cut-off.

These teams play a head to head for a place in the 3rd round

There’ll also be a place in the last 64 for one LUCKY LOSER (as per the season Man U didn’t enter the FA Cup) to make up the 64

Notes:

Any replays will take place on the following Sat/Sun/Mon matches.

Draw for the next round will be made on the Friday evening following the matches. (12th Jan though is my big birthday so I’ll play the 4th round draw by ear.) I’ll do the draws myself – or we could have one person picking out the balls and then I read out the team.

Points will accrue for all matches played over the 3 days be they FA cup, rearranged premiership matches or other. Note the final only accrues points on the day of the match and only for the two teams involved. I’ll compute the score for the two Fiso Elite FA Cup finalists manually. (Note: any Cup Final replay will take its points from the following Sat/Sun/Mon.)

I’ll take the cut-off for scores on the Tuesday following the matches. If there are any outstanding scoring anomalies then results won’t be changed retrospectively.

If any weekends are wiped out and rearranged e.g. due to bad weather, I’ll record all results as 0-0 and matches will be replayed the following weekend.

The bingo ball machine arrived today so it's game on the the 2nd round draw tomorrow night. This one will be around 6pm because I'll be with the local brass band later on that night.

Remember positions 52-75 in the Fiso minileague go into the playoff draw. If there's a tie at the cut I'll split the tie according to whoever was higher before the matches.
