right thoughts for next season.....

I'm going to run it again

what is everyones thoughts about the whole thing?

the thread is pretty quiet - is that because we're all doing so shit?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It will be the same as this season, one team per member and go by the sun rules and regulations

I will only be allowing payment by paypal next season as EBT was a ball ache ( big time ) and use the gift option next time so i don't end up out of pocket

thoughts..........................

I really think it would be a good idea to have it where you enter 2 teams, thoughts...

what about the champions league - IMO I'm not sure how everyone felt, I know a few felt it was a bit wrong for zimm/sobd to do the draw when they are involved etc etc

2 teams is fine by me, as it just increases the pot and gives you a better chance of doing well, which maintains the interest levels.

It perhaps would be a good idea to do a seeded comp, where all the qualifying teams are ranked according to their performance up to a point (1st or second in group, total points scored, points difference, etc...) and then each rounds pairings are pre-determined all the way to the final, e.g. http://www.printyourbrackets.com/64seeded.html

It might also be a good idea to have a small prize (like just a tenner) for the team that has scored the most points in each game period, or per month, as if you've had a poor start then you could be too far off the pace to have any interest in winning the main prizes, but you could then do transfers to try and gear your team towards winning a shorter term prize.

Part of the reason for the lack of interest in it throughout the season is that we all have other teams doing better and have other things to think about rather than the slim chance of doing well against 100 others.

you could, if you were feeling adventurous, make it into a unique game by changing the rules so that we are not just following the main game. Plenty of people moan about this game so why not use this to find out a better way of playing

Rules you could adopt are:

Allow transfers any time but 9 only throughout the season.
Don't use the 7+ratings, use goals, starman and CS only
Restrict teams to 2 or 3 players from each side
Allow 442,433,532,343 or whatever

Don't worry about how to implement the rules, there are plenty of people who can build systems to help with that

You can now spend the next 4-5 months thinking about what you want to do and drumming up interest

I cant use paypal as i'm banned so i guess i wont be able to enter next season therefore wont be able to give you a chance to get one back on me and finally beat me ;)

Why not let people enter as many teams as they like but every team you enter you have to pay a fiver into to the pot.

If you get 1000 teams for example the pot would be 5k. Give prizes from 1st to 10th.

its the elite league Tom, not the 'who can enter the most teams' league.
Some will see a 5k pot and just enter 50 teams!

yeah very interesting, I wouldn't be able to do the points if we ignored the 7 ratings etc unless you know how?

I think two teams would be good as I'm sure this season the teams down the bottom ( zimm/edmo etc ) could have had another team where they actually picked decent players and keep a bit of interest. a prize for each tw could be a good idea

Entering as many teams as you like would kill this league stone dead, think that has to be a non-starter....

Would also advocate 2 teams per person

Extra prize for highest scoring teams between TW's sounds good as well

Thanks for volunteering to run it again Dan

Jules, Zarch, Edmo? Do you guys not fancy running it / an alternative to it?

I've already got a lot of DreamTeam related work to do next season what with keeping the stats website updated and managing over a hundred teams, so I'll have to pass.

To be fair, Dan has done well to drum up the interest and Zimm has done a good job with the Champions League. As long as we know what we're doing with it from the off then it can be run quite smoothly. This season was a bit of a rush job from memory and so next season I think it will be more of a success.

im happy for it to be run by the same crew, no problems.

2 teams sound good. I made two teams for this seasons but entered the really crap one rather than the average one :)

How will it be interesting when we have 70 or 80 people enter 1 or 2 teams and then 2 or 3 people that enter 50 or 60 teams each.

I think its been called the Elite league since it was started a few years back, maybe its something to do with the team you enter supposedly being what you think is your best :!:

If you want to have a multiple entry league then start your own competition instead of trying to turn, what in my opinion, is something that has been a nice little side game.

Regards any changes, I quite like how it is now, yes maybe 2 teams would be OK, but the champions league idea has worked well IMO. The only change I would like to try out in regards to the main game would be the 9 transfers to be used as and when idea. I reckon this would give lots more people a chance when 2 or 3 players get injured at bad times just after TW's etc.

Don't have a problem with you running it Dan, would like to see it continue as I can't be arsed with the main Sun comp anymore so the Elite league would be my main entry - as chrisharry says, if people used the Personal > Gift option in Paypal, it shouldn't cost you anything

I think it should stay at one team.
That was the reason the league was set up at the outset.

PS SOBD had no part in the initial Champions League draw, from memory, I did it all myself :D

yeah one team was the original conception, maybe I just think 2 because i might have entered a decent one.

ok so generally we'll keep it the same then, but have a champions league draw based on league standings and pots/seedings so zimm doesn't get it in the neck for fixing the draw...

I might put a few things to vote...

I'm happy to keep it one team/happy to make it two teams

A cup competition i think works well, with proper seedings/draw

maybe do a small prize for top team of the TW?

Happy to stick to the sun rules,

i would like to see the 9 transfers across the season put to a vote, if nothing else to get an idea on what people would think of this for the main game :D

Or even 2 transfer windows (now TW1 and TW2) and 3 wildcards to be used at any time :D :D

I can help out with the administration of it if you want to try out new rules, it would mean the game could run independently of the SDT site (so you wouldn't have to necessarily enter your team in the main game)

It's more a case of trying to put in practice some of the suggestions to make the game better (cos it's not likely to happen in the real game) but maybe that's another thread for another time

Keep it simple if you want but it may suffer the same fate as this year where enthusiasm quickly tales off

Personally would prefer 2 teams a fair chance I'd choose one good team.

A single team, a bad start and its forgotten...

I'll certainly go with the majority vote though. :)

Thanks for organising again...

what about we could do something like enter 2 competitions both in the elite bracket, none get entered into the sun ( all independant ) one is the original sticking by the sun rules and the other is something new, 2 players max from one team and 9 transfers throughout the season?

how hard would it be for you to come up with something for this?

I like this, If you are doing one as per normal though, it may as well be put into a mini-league to save someone having to work out the scores.

just get the rules sorted and I can build a website to run it or just a spreadsheet, depending on numbers/interest etc.

easy peasy, and I don't charge too much

Yeah seems like a good idea to me to have the original Elite League with original rules (ie. 1 team each, normal transfers etc) but maybe seed Champions league,as mentioned. Then do a separate league independent of Sun,where we could have say 9 transfers to use whenever we choose throughout season & maybe 2 teams each

Not quite sure why the Champions League needs to be seeded (this isnt in direct response to you Dave, as several have mentioned it)

Will it be based on this season?
Will it be based on performance up to a point next season?

This isnt the real world where tv viewing figures, or keeping the big clubs rich matters…. this is fantasy football.
A team can be good one week, shite the next.

These are the positions our quarter finalists were in when the group draws was made:-

Sim 1
Jules 10
Ronny 12
Black Dogs 13
Kid Kongo 27
Drawing Dead 38
GaryPeacock 63
Vid 78

I quite like the fact that a couple that were bottom 25% of the table are in the quarter finals.
A couple more from mid table too.

Thats the beauty of the cup!
