CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - LEAGUE STRUCTURE CHANGE

With the addition of the Drunken Conference this season, and with twenty clubs now qualifying for the Champions League next season there is a need to alter the format of the competition to accomodate the four extra teams. Two options were possible:-

1. To retain the current four leagues of four clubs in the league stage, but have a qualification period to eliminate four clubs.

The top two clubs in each DLA league would qualify automatically for the league stage. The remaining ten clubs would participate in a league over two weeks, with the top 6 qualifying for the league stage.

2. To increase the number of teams in each league to five and have an extra two round of games. The top two clubs in each DLA league would be seeded with the other clubs drawn randomly.

We (I :wink:

) have opted for the latter solution as whichever option would require two more weeks of competition and the sweep in option 1 may prove problematic, with some clubs being knocked out after a couple of weeks. Option 2 will give twenty teams at least 8 games in the league stages and also maximise the sweep.
