Damn annoyed, missed last eppy. This is the only programme on TV I watch and look fwd to.

Have just found this thread, can't believe that it exists.

Kinda miss that smooth talking American from the last series, can't remember his name, he never invested so I guess he had to go. But he talked the talk and always gave very good business reasons why the venture would fail.

I find Peter very cutting and VFM although he ducks out a little too often for my liking. Best of the lot imo though.

DB and Theo just love themselves so much to the point of urgggh. Richard is trying to go the same way and that woman is just foul. But as a package it works well but I agree with Jonathon, its annoying that the winner always appears last.

Great TV. Always disappointed when it ends.

Two Irish guys had invented a golf trolly battery charger that went in the back of your car boot rather than have to take the batery in the houseto recharge it. Great invention! Anyone with a power trolley will want one.

Did they invest? No! The Irish guys were weak on the business side...................so what? The mad millionaires miss a trick like this sooooooooooooooooo often. This invention needs a drop of marketting and it would be HUGE with global sales!

Peter wont invest in a gold making machine if the presenters dont wear a suit FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good TV though.

Yes, looking fwd to tonight also, where those rejected get the chance to give the V salute !

On the "we cant invest in that" debate, I thought the whole point of the original programme was that they would invest in the idea if good enough, these days they want it to have sold millions already and made massive profits before they take the plunge. Well thats risky isnt it ?

There have been some cracking ideas lately where they should have invested but they either want far too much equity or they are just too tight.

I know the short, fat irishman who had his arms crossed all the way through. The dragons would have to have gone a long way for him to make a deal. He's got no worries raising enough money to get the thing going and he got 10 minutes nationwide advertising thrown in.

I totally agree Groomy !

That boiled egg was a fantastic idea. Chuck it in, dump your load, come back, perfect egg !

So what if it didnt actually work, he said it did, thats hould be good enough shouldnt it ? If its crap that would come out during due diligence. A great idea and they were all pathetic. It was an idea that would sell millions ! It will prob be in that mag IWOOT soon enough !

Apparently it is already available via one of those free with a Sunday paper mags. Although it now has space to cook 7 eggs not one. What I thought it's downfall was that it took 3 times as long as dropping an egg into a pan full of water and boiling it the old fashioned way

Must admit, much as I love the programme the Dragon's seem to want 50% all the time these days. They used to be happy with 20-30%. Interesting rivalry between Peter Jones & Richard Farley, Farley always seems to undercut Jones. Even more pertinent that when the girl in the last series did that to Jones and Pathitis, they weren't happy, and lo and behold she is not a Dragon in series 3

I think that you'll find that the reason that she was booted was that her company Red Letter Days went into Receivership  and was subsequently bought out by Theo and Peter.

Not the best advert for business acumen is it?

What happens if you had a curry the night before, you could have a problem in the kitchen.............that to me is the main benefit, you can forget all about the egg until you are ready for it.

I had a taxi driver who had a boiled egg madras the night before. He farted and it was F*CKING disgusting. Not only that, he then said "good arse", as if to compliment his bottom for the foul deed.

We're last nights people from series one as well?

How many series' have there been?

I have only watched it with the Aussie bloke and ugly hotel woman.

The 2 'catch-up' programmes have had another woman and an American fella on there.

Still good viewing, but none of the people I had seen applying for money.

Last night was from series 2, the recent series was number 3.

Good programme, but I wish that they had shown more people that were given cash.

They have already shown a programme featuring the people who were awarded cash from series one. What was interesting was that in a number of cases the actual investment deal didn't go through because of misrepresentations by the person seeking money. In particualr I remember the guy who was selling brollies from vending machines in shopping centres and stations. He suggested that he had a deal to place the machines in underground stations. In truth he hadn't finalised the deals and therefore the Dragons backed out. Also there was a jewellery designer who fell out the Rachel whatever her name is and that investment never happened...

Its exactly this point that makes me irritated that more deals are not done as they can always pull out of the deal later during the due diligence. They should, in the Den, be buying into the idea, but it never happens.

But the real reason for investing is to make money. Full stop. That's why they're always more interested when there are contracts already in place. They want to get in and out within 3 years in most cases. In such circumstances if they are induced into investing on the back of misreprestentations then it's fair enough if they then back out when the truth is revealed. Having said that the would-be entrepreneurs are interviewed for 3-4 hours which is long enough to do more than a basic due diligence exercise.

There are exceptions to this general rule. Peter Jones investing in that dance/events company seemd to me to be buying into the idea rather than any cash-pot.

As I recall, the events/circus thing wasnt an idea at all, it had been going for sometime, and they stated that they expected to make money the first year.

But don't they all say that!

It always makes me laugh when they have projections of 6 million sales in year 1 on the back of zero contracts and no marketing.

It's the same with the valuations.

Thanks for the updates above (i've only seen series 3 then).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was an article in the press recently (I didnt see it, a friend told me);
But apparently, the money rarely turns up.

Even the poker guy from Series 3 (where they all wanted a slice) - he was in the paper saying the deal never came to fruition (but i believe he has done alright regardless).

Pity the catch up shows didnt show more of the applicants - cos they only really showed about half a dozen last night. I'd like a more concise run down - showing more of the applicants.

Yes but what i dont understand is why that makes the Dragons not invest. Often someone with little business accument or experience but with an excellent idea is cast aside because they are not qualified accountants!

They would turn away the worlds most important (and profitable) inventions if they person with it had done their sums wrong!

It's precisely because it's a business investment rather than an investment in an idea or product. They know that if it's such a good product with agreed sales they wouldn't need to come on Dragons' Den for investment - they could get it off a Bank.

That golf battery is a good example of something where it might sell a lot over a long period. The Dragons aim to go in and double their investment over 2/3 years and then get out. If the business plan isn't in place to shift units quickly, they aren't going to invest, they have lots of other palces where they could invest their money and get returns of 15%+

On some items you may be right. However if they invest in the golf battery idea (£100k for 20%) and it makes gazzilions then they have 20% of gazzilions!!!!

The money these guys are being asked for is peanuts. Surely it makes more sense to invest in some potential huge burners rather than just make a few thousand with their pocket money?

I liked the new series but I thought Peter Jones had become decidedly smug, almost to the point of reading his snidey comments off prepared q-cards, the tactic which burnt him in the ass with that pub poker guy.
The two new Dragons are excellent, although you do feel that they, too, will drop into a role in series 3.
