We have seen with the recent demise of the TFFO and CYKI fantasy games, that the fantasy football market is feeling the ongoing economic pinch. Good news is here though, as the Divisional Championships has survived, and is back for a 6th season in 2010/11!
The game has not completely survived the downturn: the management are still in discussions about necessary cost-cutting measures that are likely to spell the end of the Champions League feature from last season, and could also result in the reduction in the contract of the weekly update commentary writer.
But the management can today confirm that the championships itself will go on, and other than the above-mentioned cuts will run the same as last year's game (
see last year's thread).
In summary, all entrants are split into divisions which compete over 5 gameweeks. The highest scoring teams in each division over those 5 weeks get promoted, the lowest get relegated, and we then begin again for a new 5 week phase. There are 7 of these phases over the season. The ultimate goal is to gain promotion to the Premier Division and earn the title of Prem Champion!
As ever the game 'proper' will start in GW4 (September 11), to allow seven five-week phases to run up until GW38. The first three gameweeks (August 14-29) will act as a pre-qualifying period.
If you played this game last year, you will start September in
at least the division you finished last May (possibly higher, if you do well in pre-qualifying). So for example, the 20 managers that ended last season in the Premier Division are guaranteed a place in the top flight for 2010/11, as long as they sign up again for this season. Spare spaces in each division are up for grabs (for anyone!) in pre-qualifying. These will be awarded based on your team's score in the first 3 GWs (with a headstart given to those who finished higher in 09/10; or if you are new to this side-game, based on your 09/10 FPL score).
Divisional positions will be awarded in this pre-qualifying simply according to your FPL score at the end of GW3 plus your 'headstart'. Your headstart is the bit based on how you did last year, and has been worked out as follows:
(last year's PleaseLinkToFiso points score - 2000) / 10
+
10 points per division above the lowest, in which you finished last year's div champs
(where the first part is taken to be zero if you scored below 2000 or didn't play, and the second part means +30 if you finished in Div 1, +20 for Div 2 and +10 for Div 3)The management would now like to invite entries for the 2010/11 game. Note if you want to play you must sign up (even if you played last season). The deadline for signing up is Friday 27th August. (This is in order to hopefully publish the standings of pre-qualifying and fix the division sizes before the final weekend of pre-qualifying.) Sign-ups will be permitted after this date and may continue throughout the season, but any sign-ups after this date will automatically join at the bottom of the divisional ladder.
Please make sure your team link is either in the 'FPL' box in your profile, or you have correctly linked to it on the FISO join-up thread for this season (
here). Thanks!

PS. If you have changed your FISO name in the last year, and entered this side-game last year under your old name, please do tell me so you don't get treated as a newbie and lose any divisional rights you may have. (PPS. Before I get 20 replies saying "I used to be called malefice", note that I will be checking up
