I have opposite problem, i have 5 square meals a day including deserts chocolate scones etc, and i am only 13 stone. My metablosim is uber high or i have something wrong with me.

My advice is go vegetarian or vegan if you want to lose weight.

Just weighed myself and I seem to have gained almost 2lbs over the weekend

I weigh myself loads (mainly to make sure I drink enough after training to replace fluid loss - 2lbs lost during training means I've drunk about a litre too little fluid) and my weight goes up a couple of lbs every weekend due to eating loads. Usually drops down again by Wednesday morning.

1lb loss per week is an ideal weight loss target. You need about a 500 calorie deficit per day (3,000 per week) to lose 1lb per week, on average. 500 calories is only 45 minutes of moderate exercise. Cutting out a snack per day, eating slightly smaller portions and doing 40-60 minutes moderate exercise 4 days a week and you'll be there. Eat a bit slower so you know when you're full as well, and don't finish off the kids leftovers (if you have kids).

Main thing IMO is to make fairly small changes that you can keep up. Don't live like a monk and try to find some sort of exercise that you enjoy. I personally don't like diet plans, as they involve too much change. Anything that creates enough calorie deficit will 'work' (especially low carb diets because you tend to retain less water) but if you then just go back to old habits the weight will come back on again. Plus if you create too much of a calorie deficit it screws up your metabolism and your body will rebel (it'll try to lay down as much fat as possible next time you eat rather than creating the sugars needed to make ATP - the chemical that fuels your muscles. You'll feel wasted, not lose weight as fast and put it back on fairly quickly).

Best of luck. Success generally depends on how much you really want to lose the weight, and the reasons why.

Started a week ago at 103.6kg (228.4lbs) with the aim of dropping 4.5kg (10lbs) by Christmas.
Current weight is 102.6kg (226.2lbs) so a 1kg or 2.2lb drop.
Not much but I wasn't aiming for much and it leaves me well on target.

Swim three times a week, take a long walk now and again and don't butter your bread. Salad sandwiches are quite filling .. you can put in as much salad as you like and the calorie count is still low .. low cal dressing of course.

For every hour of good excercise you put in you get two back in life span.

Nice one. Good progress. Should hit the goal but don't get disheartened if the rate of loss decreases.

I expect it will fluctuate a bit.
Once I have dropped the 10lbs I hope to maintain that before trying to lose another 10lbs in the New Year.
I think it's probably more sustainable if done slowly but I may be wrong.

Dieting doesn't work, exercise is the only way to keep the weight off.Moderation is key never cut out what you enjoy eating just cut back eg eating chips 5 days a week say eat chips 3 days a week that way your body won't crave for the food it is missing and you are less likley to binge out.

It's sort of what I'm doing. Crisps etc I keep to the weekends and during the week just have nuts or fruit if I feel like a snack.

That IS dieting isn't it?

You look up how long you have to run for to work off the calories of a Mars bar and then try and tell me exercise is key. Exercise obviously helps and is great for you in many ways but eating less (crap) food is the key to weight loss.

I did that when I went to the gym, and had three bars of chocolate to make me feel better

Down to 99.8kg (220lbs) so I'm just about 1.5lbs short of target.
Crisps have been tempting and I have tended to forgot about the diet over the weekends.

Managed to put on about 10lbs over the course of December, so need to lose just over a stone before the spring. Back to healthy eating and proper exercise again now that (nearly) all of the Christmas treats have been eaten!

Target of 12 stone 7lbs - current weight 13 stone 10 lbs (did hit 14 stone at the start of the month ). Should get there by the end of March I reckon.

Anyone else trying to shed their winter insulation?

Yip - 3 weeks in south Africa on holiday - booze, big breakfasts, and lunches and evening meals come to that. Then Christmas. Last night finished the nuts and officially declared the house free of all treats! Add no Gym for a month and we have a double figure poundage gain. Also Mrs K must have put my shirts on a hot wash as they are definitely tighter too

Jan is always a booze free month. Gym kicked off last week to be maintained at 4 x a week - will try and increase to 5. Hard work.

Got down to about 96kg before Christmas which is 212lbs and is a 16lb drop. Now back up to 99kg after Christmas which was my target.
I have reverted a bit to crisps etc but I reckon if I just keep healthier eating during the week i can stay below 220lbs

Yep (and my autumn warmth, summer fun, springtime joy etc etc  )

Few years back went on one of these crazy diets - not healthy at all but did lose about 30lbs (just over 2 stone). Then met my girlfriend - she convinced me to stop smoking and a mix of that plus shedding the weight in an unorthodox manner meant I've managed to pile it back on again.

Now am getting married in September so have 8 months to lose 30 pounds. I know how hard the final 10 pounds are so I'm aiming for 3 stone - 42 pounds. Doing it this time from just eating better and exercising more. Let's see how I go.

Starting off - 210.4lbs

Goodluck Stuboy !

Its so hard to lose the suet and to keep it off is even harder. From July last year ive lost 2 stone, and was well pleased, got down to a respectable 12 stone, over Christmas , fell off the wagon and have put back on 10lb.
Reading this thread has got me back on track.
Ive found diets are no good , you must excercise, im nearly 50 so jogging is a no for me , but a long walk , 40-50 mins 5 days a week , and the fat will come off.
Well i will follow the plan , and lets see how we get on.?

The food in SA is amazing.
Not really the ideal place if you are not a meat eater though

Some things are as expensive as the UK, some more - two things that generally are not however are steaks and beer, re the former you can get something A4 size for less than a tenner pretty much anywhere. And its tastier or maybe thats just because you are on holiday.
