Kinda - it's an excellent series though. Saw it on FX when it was on last year, and am looking forward to the next series. The author is up to book 4 I think.

Finished watching the 2nd series (downlaoded) a while ago, and it's an aboslutely brilliant show, can't wait for more :)

I even bought the 1st book, but im not much of a reader so only gotten through about 80pages in dribs and drabs since i bought it at Christmas  . Same story as the first series anyway, so i guess im not as motivated to keep turning the pages

"Dexter becomes a forensics expert for the Miami Metro Police Department and moonlights as a serial killer with a cause"

He works with cops, for the cops has a id badge for crime scenes and works in the cop shop. His sister is a cop and his father was a cop but he may not be a cop, just a forensics expert who works for the cops. Sorry about the mixup

I've just caught up on Dexter on my sky+ and have to agree it is excellent.

It's the only series I've seen on ITV in the last few years thats been worth watching. Great stuff.

Next ep tonight 8-)

Loved the 1st series (though the ITK identity was a little corny)

Season 2 just started on FX. They've been billing it 'the hunter becomes the hunted' and after watching the 1st episode that looks like it's going to be the case. This is just in time to fill the 'House' shaped hole in my Sky+ planner.

Got the next episode Sky+'d (sunday?) as Mrs m saw an ad for it and fancied it.

Any idea how many Series 2 episodes we'll have missed and whether anyone will be showing Series 1 soon? (don't want links to interweb downloads, ta)

The one on Sunday 6th was the 1st episode of Series 2. According to the FX site, it's repeated tonight at 10pm or Thursday at 11.30pm.

My advice would be to Sky+ them all until you've seen Series 1 as you'll get too many spoilers if you start watching series 2 now. Don't know about repeats but Amazon are doing it for £15 if you can be that bothered.

I don't have FX

But if you haven't seen series 1 then try and watch it. (Its the best show i've seen in years which doesn't say much really  ).

Hopefully series 2 will go out on one of the terrestials soon :?:

I must say that after watching half of season one, I was very disappointed by Dexter and I am yet to complete the first season because of this. The concept is good, and I'm sure as a book it is excellent, but there just isn't enough variation between episodes, and so after the first few it becomes a bit boring. Also, the woman who plays Dexter's sister, 'Debra' doesn't do a great acting job.

Perhaps I'm spoilt by previous excellent series such as Prison Break. Now THAT is good TV 8-).

Just watched the first episode of Season 2 (haven't seen the first) and can't say I was that impressed.

I guess it will (would?) take me a while to get used to the characters etc but I had no empathy for any of them. (Apart from being a serial killing, forensics bloke  ) Dexter himself is very dull. No charisma at all.

PS If his sister was married to a bloke who turned out to be his serial-killer brother, why was there no mention of the incest angle when talking about how she was a bit messed up??

She's Dexter's sister by adoption.

Ah, had thought they both might be his half-siblings or something.

So Dexter might 'have a go' himself as a future story line??

But Dexter has no emotions as he's a cold killer and hates the thought of jiggy. He pretends to have normal emotions to fit in. Perhaps thats why you picked up on his lack of charisma. You gotta watch series one methinks but you know the outcome so f*eck

Cracking episode on FX last night. Very clever how they make you want* the serial killer to triumph over the police (esp Doakes) doing a really good job of tracking him down.

I know that's been a staple of films/TV for ages i.e. the way you empathise with gangsters in mob movies etc, but at the heart of this series, Dexter really is a terrible man.

*Am assuming that's what most other viewers want

Undoubtably - a spin-off series called 'Doakes' wouldn't be worth watching.

Excellent series though, the highlight of TV viewing in the Giddy household at the moment.

A few episodes in to series 3 on FX.

!Spoiler alert!

Not sure about the storyline of having someone know that Dexter can commit murders, especially when that person is close to his boss who already suspects Dexter of framing Doakes (though is being strangely nice to him in this series).

Think I prefer it when he's a one man band.

Also, is it me or has Rita had a boob job?

No (sorry) and no (not that I know of)

EDIT - Wiki says it will premiere (future tense) on Sept 27th. Hope that means in US as I'd have missed it if it means UK

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter_(TV_series)

EDIT2 - no mention of Series 4 on FX website :(

Amongst the sad news that Michael C. Hall (Dexter) has been battling a treatable form of cancer it says "A fifth series of Dexter is due to go into production later in the year"

Anyone heard any news on Series 4 for us Brits yet???

This is all I can find on the FX site

What will take over your box sets next year? True Blood returns in Feb, Damien Lewis makes us proud after his stint on the West End with the return of Zen cop series Life. Expect the biggest twist of the year when Dexter season four wraps up Spring schedules. And could it be Mark Harmon's farewell when season eight of NCIS keeps us on our toes?

So, Spring whatever that means but presumably not imminent. I wonder if ITV will show Series 3 first.

I found (DigitalSpy forum?) that ITV are showing Series 3 from March - someone was speculating FX wouldn't show Series 4 til that was over which would make it at least June.

Enjoying the current series. It hasn't reached the point where it becomes repetitive/irritating yet, although his wife is trying her hardest to make this happen.
