The paper adds that a request by clubs to start next season on August 16, a week later than scheduled, could see the 2009 FA Cup final being held as late as May 30, or brought forward to May 16 – a week before the end of the Premier League season. Wembley is already booked for May 23-25 for Football League playoffs

Then surely the FA Cup Final would have to be played on 16th or 30th May anyway irrespective of when the EPL season begins? When was the Final originally scheduled, if 23rd is already taken, and the EPL was planned to end on 16th but now proposed 23rd? Surely then FA Final was always gonna be on 30th? Or am I being thick? Probably. Now I'm really confused. Oh well, got a whole year to work it out I guess.

The May Day Bank Holiday is the earliest possible in 2009 (May 25th)
This date is always used for the Play Off into the Premiership

UEFA have a later Champions League Final , presumabbly getting ready for their switch to a Saturday Final

The Premier League are basing their dates around this

Looks like the FA Cup Final will not be the last game of the Season then !!!

The Championship is always over a week earlier
but they still play last game on Sunday

However the Big Clubs wont want to play on a Sunday if one
of them is getting ready for a Champions League Final
on the Wednesday following

Fixture nightmare for Man U then.

However they could play on Monday Sept 1st after the Friday night Super Cup

UEFA will bring forward their usual dead match (6th Group game)
by a week.

However it looks like they will miss 2 Premier League games just before Christmas(unless they can bring forward a league game from 13th Dec to Weds 10th Dec)

United won't play in the first round. Not sure when their 'semi' is (about the 16th??) but they may be able to still play here on the 13th.

No League Games on New Years Day

The FA Cup is traditionally staged on the first Saturday in January and this season the first day of 2009 falls on a Thursday which is a day when we wouldn't normally have a league programme on. It is a shame, but we can't schedule matches on New Years Eve because the Police Forces up and down the Country would not accept them because it is undoubtedly the busiest night of the year for them.
