Really that good ?

Or just popular because the current guitar (I am reluctant to use the word indie) scene is pretty dire ?

OK, I quite like the Parachutes album but not really much since them.

I don't dislike 'em but they just leave me feeling, well, like making a cup of tea.

Coldplay make me angrier about the state of music today than even the X Factor. Like listening to a vacumn cleaner but not quite as exciting.

Well I like them - but I also like Sam Gray, Deus and Rustie!
And the Beatles, Eagles and Ben Folds.

It takes all kinds - now for a nice cup of tea. :D

Must admit, not seen this weeks Jules yet;

The Glasto appearance this year re-ignited my Coldplay appreciation.

Not heard any of their recent/latest offerings again yet though.

The first two albums were exceptional (certainly at the time).
Then I completely went off them.

But the Glasto set was enough to make me think I liked them still (and erase all the memories of tedium in between).

Caught up on Jules last night;

Nope, the Glasto inspired love in has worn off.... Back to thinking they're dull and I find Chris Martin makes me nauseous.
Oh well, we'll always have Parachutes and Rush of Blood.

Never understood what all the fuss was about, they leave me err..... cold. They've made a few okay pop songs but that's about it imho.

Heard the new single yesterday and it was, as expected, bland and dire. Harmless and a little poppy I guess but really just mindless pap with no artistic merit for the brain/ear dead with no taste.

I struggle to believe I was once a fan. I loved the first album but haven't played it for years. If I played it today would I still love it, would I be prejudiced by the taint of cheesiness of recent release? or would I genuinely realise it was tosh and be ashamed at having once liked it?

May have to experiment and find out (if I'm not too yellow).....

I'm in the category of not really disliking them as I do, for example, Nickelback or some absolute toss like that.

I just would never listen to them. Bland, uninspiring, pop. Even that really popular one where he sounded like Alan Partridge was cack.

Incidentally my wife had Ellen on the other day and they were on with what I assume was their new song. What the fk is that mess of noise?

It's surprising how a group that produces such bland and characterless music can be so irritating. Much of this can be put down to that gurning, sticky-tape fingered dick-on-a-stick Chris Martin.

My theory is that Coldplay is rock music for people who don't actually like rock music, and would secretly rather be listening to, say, Michael Buble or Will Young.

A bit harsh on Will Young :wink:
