Well as the topic says, I honestly believe that clean sheet points is severely under-rated.

The main reasons are:

1) Defending is a lot more dependent on the team than individuals as a mistake in another defender/goalkeeper could easily lead to a goal which penalises all the defenders/goalkeeper. Offense on the other hand could rely either on the abilities of the skilful dribble of a lone striker, penalty or free kick (all of which only affects one striker in terms of points).

2) Defending has a cap. If there is no goal then it is a clean sheet and it is a fixed set of points. It does not take into consideration of how many attempts at goal were deflected by the defender. Of course I am not sure if this is taken into account in bonus but that too has a cap.

4 points for a defender's clean sheet and 4 points for a striker's goal? That hardly seems balanced IMO, but I would really like to see other people's arguments against this.

Sorry, Do you think that defenders should get more points for keeping a clean sheet or less?

I personally think it is about right to be honest. Strikers have the ability to amass more points by scoring 3 times for example, whereas 1 player cannot keep 3 clean sheets in the same game. That said, it is a lot easier to pick defenders in the context of team coverage rather than for the individual player.

Say tomorrow for example, Man Utd win 5 0. While it is likely guys like Rooney may score 2 or 3, defenders will also pick up 6 points for most likely not having much to do. A goal keeper can get 6 points without making a single save. I think defensive midfielders are the only group of players under-represented in FPL as they are pretty much write offs. If it finishes 5 0 Man Utd, gk and defenders will get 6 minimum, strikers will likely get more, and any defensive midfielder will almost certainly get no extra points.

I do however think this year the bonus points are too stacked towards goal scorers (as Im sure almost everyone agrees). In this sense, defenders are undervalued. But I dont have an issue with 4 points for a cs and 4 for a goal

This is why the cheapest regular playing defenders on the best teams are the most popular as well as the set piece takers. And why forwards cost more.

To be clear: there should be more points for keeping a clean sheet IMO.

I understand your point, but what bugs me is how easily one defender's mistake could cost the entire team their points.. no names. *cough*figueroa*cough*. There is a penalty for that but there is no penalty for rooney if hernandez misses an open shot goal if rooney passed the ball to him (not implying that there should be, just putting it in comparison). Take into account that a goal missed for a striker at one point does not mean that he will not score later whereas a goal conceded for a defender is essentially a sealed fate.
