I hope you used price comparison sites and then went via a cashback site?

I tend to get £65 knocked off each of mine and my wife's quotes every year that way.

If you are a 2 or more car household then Admiral Multicar take some beating. Cheap for me and the mrs and also the only way we could afford to get the daughter insured on her Ka.

Admiral for me

Furthermore when in did claim and the chap who hit me tried to say it was my fault they did a full site assessement, a computer generated remodel of the acciddent, took photos of the scene and nailed him.

Not just a good price but also good if you do claim.

If you switch via some sites you get cash back for doing so

Main ones are topcashback and quidco.

I discovered quidco first and thought it worthwhile despite the first fiver each year going into their pockets. Then I discovered topcashback and they have no charges.

What's more, if I refer you/anyone I think we both get a token quid or two as a thank you - no great shakes in the real world but still money for nothing. I've got about £100 waiting to come back to me anyday from everyday things like the car insurance and flowers for granny's birthday!!

If you switch gas and electricty provider using uswitch (£35 of amazon vouchers) energyhelpline (£15) or moneysupermarket (£30) then you get the above cash too!

I really hate Insurance companies :(

I'm currently with Quinn direct and have 7 yrs no claims (I've never claimed in my life but lost my original no claims after I went travelling for a couple of years).

Last year I paid £550 ( ) and I'm due for renewal soon. Quinn sent me a letter saying that they were unable to offer me a new policy  A week later another letter from Quinny boy says 'good news we've reveiwed your situation and can offer a new policy for the sum of £680    FFS seven hundred £.

*

After travelling in 2000, I came home and bought a car for £500, I started a new policy, first year premium £800. Holy shit man, the car was worth £500  Next year premium drops down and the same the following year to about £400. LOL £400 on a car that could barely move  Good job I had 2 years no claims :D

So one day some eff robs my car and it turns up a few days later burnt out on a field. Police tow it away and I have to go down to some junk yard. Here I have to pay £230 fee, to the people who towed the car away on the police orders  Of course I could claim this back off the insurance but I'll lose my no claims and god knows what next years premium will be - so eff it I pay the £230

Then this cowboy tells me I need to remove the car (its actually just a shell of a car because its been burnt to eff :x ). If I don't take it now, it's going to cost me £30 a day as some sort of rental charge for being on his shithole of a scrapheap

'FFS £30 a day!'

'But wait' says Trigger 'I can scrap it for you.'

'Thanks mate, just get rid of it then, cheers. See you later'

'Hang on a second there pedro. There will be a scrappage charge'

'How much?' :|

'£110'

&*^$*^&$&£%^&££%^$*$%$%^&*^&%^&*$%&*$&*

*

I feel better now :D

Aviva seemed to be doing cheap quotes and received a further 70 pounds cashback with quidco(discovered a month ago).
Another 150 pounds cashback with quidco for signing upto to vodafone on a 10 pound a month contract :) .
Switching your gas and electric to Scottish Power through the site will get you 130 pounds cashback.Offers do change frequently.

Hotpot

You may wish to Google 'Quinn' Insurance

You will find that they are currently in 'Admistration' and for a while have been barred from writing business in the UK. (I am surprised more was not made of this in the general media)

I work in the Insurance Industry and could say more, but do not want to be sued for libel.

What I will say is that price is not everything !!!

That is very true.

Probably is if you have a cheap car and know you'll never actually claim .................... but i'll stay with Admiral now as they are not far off the cheapest and the service i have had from them has been excellent.

Thanks for the heads up.

I did get one online quote that was cheaper than them but because I'm such a lazy B, I thought 'oh its only £30, I'll stick with Quinny boy' :D

In light of recent findings, I'll be reconsidering my options.

Funny eh, I only came in here to have a little moan and it might have saved me from having a really big moan in the future.

Thanks again wand, I owe you a pint 8-)

Done for another year :D Went with AXA in the end for £640 :|

Rang Quinny to terminate, they claim they are now back in business and offered to better my other quote :? The gambler in me was dying to take them up on the offer but sanity prevailed in the end. Bye bye Quinn.

So I've paid £640 on an '03 Vectra which I valued at their minimum price of 'under £3,000' and I have an excess on the policy of £650  Like I say, robbing bustards!

I can't wait for next year.

:D

Couldn't agree more!

I spent today getting quotes online at Go Compare, Compare The Market and also Aviva and theaa.com. It is impossible to do this anonymously - I hadn't logged out of The AA website more than 2 minutes and they were on the 'phone asking me what I thought of the quote! The comparison sites seem to have a check box to prevent companies ringing up. Not so on theaa.com or Aviva.

I can't believe the difference in quotes from one company to the next.

£161.75 from Sureterm Direct was the cheapest (£380 from current provider Direct Line). Anyone heard of Sureterm Direct?

Thanks for that goldenballs. I don't know why I didn't think of googling. Seems to me as though they are just a hobby insurer. I am sure they are fine, and must be to be on the price comparison sites, but I think I will give them a miss.

Still mulling things over. Insurance doesn't run out until June 9th.

Guys

If an Insurance quote comes up from an Insurance intermediary, the question you need to ask, is What Insurance Company is Underwriting the policy.

If a claim is to be made, it will be the Insurance Company who pays out, not the Insurance Intermeidary.

When you say intermediary, you are referring to the likes of Go Compare are you? If so, Go Compare and Compare the Market both make it perfectly clear who the insurance company is with logos. The AA, however, didn't seem to mention anywhere who the insurance company was.

Sureterm say they are an Insurance Intermediary, who actually Underwrites the policy

Tell them you've had a quote of £390 & would they be able to match that as you would rather not have to go through the process of changing your direct debit. If they say no, ask them if there is any movement at all that they could make as 'after all' you did only pay £467.92 last year & if so you'd be more than happy to recommend them to all your friends.

Have a look on moneysavingexpert for info on getting a cheap car insurance quote.
Also look on quidco for getting cashback on a policy-aviva was the cheapest quote for me last year and i got a further 60 pounds off getting it through quidco at the time.

Oh, and ask if you can speak to a Manager if you get no joy - you may have to kick off a little bit
