Have a look on moneysavingexpert for info on getting a cheap car insurance quote. Also look on quidco for getting cashback on a policy-aviva was the cheapest quote for me last year and i got a further 60 pounds off getting it through quidco at the time.

+1 I got mine though kwikfit - it was not the cheapets (by around a £5) but offered (and got) £45 cashback. Anyone who shops online without cashback these days is losing a lot of dosh.

Mine's up for renewal soon so will be interested in any recent good deals anyone got :D

You may wish to Google 'Quinn' Insurance

You will find that they are currently in 'Admistration' and for a while have been barred from writing business in the UK. (I am surprised more was not made of this in the general media)

I work in the Insurance Industry and could say more, but do not want to be sued for libel.

What I will say is that price is not everything !!!

Interesting.
I come across Quinn direct a lot at work...every scrote i stop in a shit hole car always seems to be insured with them
Any chance of a pm for further details?

Mines coming up for renewing and for the third year running it's going up - Swiftcover for £467.92 last time, now they are 'offering' £551.97. I'm 25 this year, had my licence since 2006 and have 2yr NCB. eff joke. I've compared and compared but can't find better, any suggestions?

Tell them you've had a quote of £390 & would they be able to match that as you would rather not have to go through the process of changing your direct debit. If they say no, ask them if there is any movement at all that they could make as 'after all' you did only pay £467.92 last year & if so you'd be more than happy to recommend them to all your friends.

Cheers, I'll give it a go tomorrow, what have I to lose?...

Oh, and ask if you can speak to a Manager if you get no joy - you may have to kick off a little bit

Just had a go, they were absolutely not budging an inch...

"First Direct: If you haven’t found a policy cheaper until 31 March 2011 First Direct says it will beat new customer's renewal quote from their previous insurer by at least 10%, providing your quote is over £200 fully comp or £120 non-comprehensive. Try it: First Direct (then let us know if it worked for you)."
Above is a quote from http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insura ... surance?dd

Done for another year :D Went with AXA in the end for £640 :|

Rang Quinny to terminate, they claim they are now back in business and offered to better my other quote :? The gambler in me was dying to take them up on the offer but sanity prevailed in the end. Bye bye Quinn.

So I've paid £640 on an '03 Vectra which I valued at their minimum price of 'under £3,000' and I have an excess on the policy of £650  Like I say, robbing bustards!

I can't wait for next year.

:D

Gotta love those Insurance companies.

So my Vectra died about 3 months ago. It died for me but some mechanic thought he could bring it back to life so I sold it to him.

So being a lazy git I thought theres only a couple of months on the Insurance I'll just let it expire in May :?

But of course a few months on they send me a renewal saying next years premium is £840  and I don't need to do anything they'll just take the money from my account next week!

So I gets on the dog and bone and tell them I don't want to renew (it expires next week) and I tell him the car has gone.

So this genius tells me he will cancel the policy from midnight and there is a £41 cancellation fee that I now owe them

I say can't we just wait a week and imagine I'm with a new company (as I'm sure there is no fee for not renewing a policy, surely even car insurance companies can't do this can they?!). He says no its against the law to have a policy on a car I dont own so it has to be cancelled and I'll be refunded any premiums paid less cancellation fee, but as I'm only a week from renewal I actually owe them money to terminate the policy!

Anyways, we have words, he speaks to his boss and they waive the outstanding £41 :P so thats it I'm free!

I'm moving to a company car. No more Insurance, no mare car tax, no more garage charges, its going to be heaven.

I've traded them all in for a huge tax bill at the end of the year!

:D

Glad you got sorted, Hotpot.

I've just spent the morning setting up my next policy. I'm late 40s, 9 yrs+ No Claims, no convictions (religious or otherwise) and drive an MG ZS 120+ TD.

Last year with Churchill was £360.
This year's equivalent coverage is £420.

I shopped around via Martin Lewis's site - Go Compare, Aviva, Direct Line, Moneyexpert.com and Moneysupermarket.com. The last came up with Swiftcover at £307! It was slightly inferior cover but the equivalent came to £354! :P

Trouble is, their site won't let my card pay! :| I'm awaiting instruction from them.

I've been driving for 30 years now and can't recall the last time my policy price fell - and as I'm moving back to the Hebrides soon it'll fall even more - unless there's an admin charge for change of address.

It's great - you won't look back!

If you haven't picked your car yet use the comcar website to see what the tax will be. Its amazing the variation. With my current car I could save £850pa by switching to the diesel version (but still top of the range). Saving even more by switching cars.

If you are with a lease company beware that they can be $cumbags too. For example, ours won't let have an air conditioning service at the manufacturer's specified time or let us change tyres at the recommended tread depth - instead we have to wait for them to be vitually illegal - and then they'll try and switch to a cheaper tyre brand.

Finally had a reduction for the first time in three years! Hastings Direct with £451.97, happy enough with that. Swiftcover made me laugh, their renewal offer was.... £1,099.98! Don't think they wanted my custom somehow.

Make sure your employer fills in the right form so your tax code is restricted to collect the tax due on your car benefit.

Remember, the lower the list price and the lower the CO2 emissions, the lower the benefit and the less tax you pay :D

My insurance is up soon in a few months so time to look around.
