During a quiet moments fermentation, sorry contemplation, on my new heady height of 931st I began to wonder where I might be if I'd picked the chap who booted a couple of more goals than my blokes or an extra defender goal or two.

Foolishly I realised I could go back through my team and check my score if I'd picked my highest scoring player each week as captain.

It turned out after 12 games 11 different players had taken the high scoring role andIF I'd picked them I would be in 22nd! (I managed the correct choice once  )

So my question is it generally accepted policy to carefully consider the captain role or just stick a pin in... it's a 9/1 shot as long as I don't pick the goalkeeper or in hazey moment one of the subs.

Any thoughts?

Inglebones.

I know exactly what you mean.

This can be looked upon as a 12 player game. 11 players plus 1 Captain score. Get your captain wrong and you are looking at your remaining 10 players all playing and scoring well to avoid a bad week.

I have made some Gems of Captain choices this Season. Drogba captained against Liverpool when he did not start. Total 16 pts. In reality you would nornally expect Drogba to score 50 points on average, so you could say 34 points dropped X2, making a 78 point shortfall to make up. Another classic was having Diaby of Arsenal in game week four as Captain following his good scoring in previous weeks and Arsenals easy fixtures. He did not start the next game, came on as Sub and got injured after 10 Mins, and scored 7 points, so using the average 50point benchmark, a 86 point shortfall to make up.

At the other end I did have Nani as Captain a few weeks back and scored 100 points X2.

I feel the main considerations for a Captain needs to be a player who you are 100% sure will start and who is preferably playing at Home that week.

I don't know why but I have a feeling that Drogba will not play all of the game this weekend and am getting twitchy about selecting him as Captain. Any thoughts?

Have also just probably lost 80 points last gameweek by putting Glen Johnson back in my team as he was fully fit and available last weekend. He did not even make the Subs bench in either of the two games played. (Hes now subbed out as I cannot afford any rotated players)
