Supposedly both back from injury in January, at 8m for the pair they could they be the secret formula for turning a team round and allowing a nice upgrade for those bargain bin ends who need the boot

Cahill yes.

Not so sure with Ashton. His fitness will be the obvious problem plus the fact that West Ham aren't setting the Premiership alight!!

There are plenty of alternative striking options out there in that price bracket.

If Ashton comes back and saves the Hammers from relegation then he has the potential to be a huge asset for any dream teamers out there.

I've purposely got Ashton and Cahill in a few teams ready for January and a shot at the highest weekly movers prize.

Ashton will probably only have to sneeze to get a 7/10 as the Sun clamour for his re-introduction to the England setup.

And I agree that if West Ham do perk up, he will probably have a large hand in it. 8 quick goals to finish the season maybe.

Having said that, he isnt on my shopping list, im looking for a less risky buy first.

I'm always on the lookout for the kind of players that others (in my work league) won't think of as automatic transfer choices and I think Ashton and Cahill have the pedigree to do well Jan-May but have had a low profile recently. Any others that should be in such a list?

I personally may be looking at the following low budget players;

Barry - Aston Villa: Good for nearly a goal a game. Penalty taker.
Adebayor - Arsenal: With Henry out he will start to shine.
Martins - Newcastle: Seems to be hitting a good spell with Ameobi out.
K. Davies - Bolton: Goal scoring mid-fielder with his team in top form.

Essien is looking a steal at 4.5m

But if you already have Terry and Lampard which one would you ditch in favour of Essien.??

Barry a goal a game is optimistic, but a 7 a game is likely!

Henry should be back by TW2 so Adebayor is a risk at £3.0m. Would think the 'unpopular' Kanu would sneak more points.

Davies is listed as a striker so I can't see much value there either. Good player and doing well but DT value?? I'm not so sure.

Ashton I agree is a punt that may be valuable if you need something that is a risk but I can't say the same for Cahill. Yes, he is injured but this was after the last TW so I think you'll find he is already a popular choice in many existing teams. :(
