It's a tough choice this year, but on shear entertainment value I plump for Avatar.

I haven't seen any of them (or even heard of some)

The only ones I'll look out for on TV are District 9 and Up.

The Hurt Locker for me. Thought it was superb.

Then again I've no seen avatar yet. Inglourious basterds was also good, would be surprised if Christoph Waltz doesn't win best supporting actor.

I see The blind side has a vote, though it's not released untill next week. I saw a reviewers copy, good movie, and it's by a long way Bullocks best performance. Back her for an Oscar.

Same here although I will probably get them on dvd.

If I get Avatar on dvd will it seem a little flat?

The Hurt Locker for me. And how about that wonderful British gal for best actress for An Education. Terrific. This poll is probably more credible than the Academy.

I agree with The Zar

Hurt Locker should win it.

I no longer watch. Pathetic as they are (dead last out of 30 teams) I'm going to the Oilers hockey game instead. I'll check the results when I get home. Did you know that Rupert Murdoch is actually on the Oscars voting list? Says it all. A coin toss between the good Avatar and the very good Hurt Locker. The best films, The White Ribbon, A Prophet, etc. all in the Foreign films category as usual.

Red carpet parade begins soon: 11pm UK time on Entertainment TV and 11:30pm on Sky 1.

Awards ceremony runs from 1am on Sky Premiere movie channel.

Reason for knowing this? Daughter plans all-night viewing before producing articles on Oscars for Hello! magazine from 6am.

She won best actress! For a film described by one critic as about as progressive as an episode of Heartbeat. That's truly horrible. How cheap and shallow are the voting panel that they think a film like that deserved to win anything.

Personally I think the Hurt Locker looks very good but I haven't seen it however having seen Avatar in 3D (if you get the chance you have to watch it this way - it just won't work as well in 2D which would take a lot away from it) I can't believe anything could have beaten it for pure unadulterated immersiveness.

Basically they voted for films either about war or how good the US is at bringing up black kids to make them white. Poor show.

Some differences in opinion there!

I wonder, have the two anti-Bullocks seen the film yet?
DrB - surely you aren't taking the word of a single critic who's likely just trying to be outspoken for the publicity? It was for best actress anyway, not most progressive film

fitb2001 has seen it and says she deserves the award - I'm a fan of hers and look forward to making up my own mind when I see it.

She took a load of DVDs to give to the crowd at the Razzies this weekend when she won Worst Actress to make sure they got to see that film in the hope they'd reconsider. I wonder if anybody complains about he Oscar win (different film) she'll send them a DVD of that film :?

Nice she has the 2 awards to balance her ego and stop her being self-pitying :D

People will always differ in their opinion and she might have put in a good show however, even considering that I haven't seen it, the subject matter is so basic and patronising I can't see how the film even deserved to be considered.

The critic I referred to is only one person, I admit that, but it's a) Sandra Bullock and b) a film about racial integration (subtle)!

Basic and patronising - the perfect recipe for success in America.

I'm surprised it didn't wipe the board!

I've just listened to some of her acceptance speech (luckily the BBC missed the tearful ending), and thought it was pretty good, and funny!

"Carey [Mulligan], your grace and your elegance and your beauty and your talent... makes me sick."

Saw her on Wossie once, and she seemed like a nice ordinary girl - happily.

Biggest shock.... Nick Park didn't win anything!!!

Man difuses 845 bombs all on his own - ridiculous. Renners character - ridiculous! :?

Scene in the desert with Ralph Fiennes was interpolated into the movie purely to have Ralp Finnes in it........ditto Guy Pearce.......didiculous

Script is somewhat patchy....

Tigerland, now thats a classy war movie. :D
