What with hollywoods failure to invest in anything they see as a sure fire moneymaker sequels abound.

What is the best set/series/trilogy/etc, not sequel alone, that you have seen?

I will plug for LotR. I am a Tolkien fan so this may appear as a no brainer. However I think Jacksons work is groundbreaking in that it set out as a movie in 3 parts not just sequels. This therefore gives the continuity that is missing in say the Indian Jones movies. This has undoubtedly started a new way of making/producing movies. He also avoid the pitfalls that are becoming apparent in the HP series.

So whats your favourite?

I honestly dont see how it could be anything other than Lord of the Rings. The whole thing was a masterpiece of cinematography and the extended DVD's are my favourite DVS's (including porn!!)

The original Star Wars trilogy will naturally run them close, as these were groundbreaking for their time.

The Godfather will be up there in the top 5 i would have thought (maybe top 10), as will the Superman set (but i guess thats just my opinion on this one).

I also quite like the Back to the Future trilogy, so they would maybe be in my trilogy top 10 too.

The Freddy Kruger films might also make the top 10? certainly in their genre

Ive probably missed loads of classics out but this was just a rush job off the top of my head

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Rambo yet or Rocky!

However my favourite is LotR as well. Probably followed by Back to the Future.

I agree with all the above suggestions, all great trilogies, and also have to say that The LOTR beats all comers.

Can I also add into the equation the Spaghetti weterns

'A Fistful of Dollars', 'For a Few Dollars More', and the unbeatable 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'

I still put the Godfather trilogy on the top of my pile although feel III was such a let down. It probably isn't that bad a film but compared to the first two it lacks a lot.

I enjoyed LotR and accept that they are great films but I suspect many will feel the same as me and not rate them as highly as you chaps above.

Thou shalt pick LOTR.

Aliens would be my number 2 if only Alien3 was even half decent.

Star Wars (originals) easy.

LotR wasnt as good as the books and relied too much on overblown massive battle scenes. Good but not that good.....

Indiana Jones trilogy for me, closely followed by Star Wars. LOTR was spoiled for me by the stupid half an hour ending sequences  , but still behind those other two even if they finished it properly. The good thing about both the Raiders of the Lost ark & Star wars trilogys is that they get better with each instalment, not worse. The 4th Episode Should start production sometime this year according to this. Hope it turns out as good as Lucas seems to think it will.

I thought it was a link for a series about Georgie

1 has to be The Godfather (as often stated the only sequel to be better than the original)

2 Lord of the Rings

3 Indianna Jones

After that I don't care

Godfather series for me is the best. Just bought the boxed DVD set for £20 at FOPP. 4 DVD's - the 3 movies and an extra DVD with the original screen tests on it.

Not watched it yet though.

Am thinking Aliens meself [maybe to do with not having wathced LotR yet]. Bought the Quadrilogy [how did they get away with that non-word???] and thoroughly enjoying watching originals and special editions and seeing how much they add.

Are they not trying to make a 5th one now?
