Can any painter or decorators out there share the best way to paint pebbledash. Me & the daughter started with the wall separating mine & the neighbours this morning with a view to doing the garage & my end terrace in the coming weeks. But we manages about 4ft X 3ft in 3 hours :? . It looks reasonable, but I am somewhat apprehensie about tackling the house now.......

Help please !!

I found this on a builders website:

1. Mix bleach with the Sandtex or exterior paint, a ratio of 1 part bleach to 15 or 20 parts paint. This kills any fungus or lichen on the wall.

2. Wet the wall before you paint it as the pebbledashing absorbs moisture very quickly and makes painting a real wrist braking experience. My builder friend used to continuously gently run water down the wall from a hose pipe. I tried a watering can (coz I hate wasting water) which worked well enough albeit going up and down the ladder became a pain so I resorted to the hose pipe.

3. As already mentioned a thick, stiffish bristled brush working the paint in a stabbing / circular motion works best.

4. Use masking tape on exposed woodwork, it's easier to get off than exterior paint.

I thought about a spray gun, but I really only want the paint to go on the walls. The thought of white masonry paqint being blown by the wind over the neighbours cars doesnt bear thinking about.

Check whether the Ronseal power sprayer can be used for such an application. It's the dogs bollocks. And accurate.
