Last night I found a jar of tomato and basil pasta sauce at the back of the cupboard and decided to knock up a quick dish. The sauce had a best before of 2005 which I thought wasn't to bad and would just need an extra 5 minutes on the hob just to be on the safe side.

I've just sorted out the recycling and noticed that the date was in fact 1995!

How long have I got?

The key date is "use before"
Best before is not that important but that said Im not sure I'd use anything pre 2005!
Maybe the end of the world will come sooner for you than the 21st or 28th!

Bad move Spiny - it would have been worth a fortune on antiques road show!

If it was new and sealed then you have a better chance than if it was covered in a green and white mould.

New - 3 days
Opened - 24 hours and counting. :D

Does anyone know exactly where in the West Mids Spiny lives ?

I'll pop round and check he's still alright - I mean we haven't heard from him for half an hour.

SPINY, DON'T EAT IT !!

Even bottled water has a best before type date - most are meaningless, but a having a date is a legal thing, and you probably can not sue them if you die.

When you snuff it later on I'll tell the Crematorium to give you another couple of minutes to be on the safe side

So long Spiny.

An appropriate way to go as he insisted on listening to all that Prog Rock rubbish which had a 'best before' date of 1973.

Let's hope he enjoyed his last meal that we know was based on a tomato and basil sauce.

Could be the second FISO'er to have predicted their own demise. What happened to the FISO'er who tried to do some re-wiring in the dark, or something? Come to think of it, who was it?
