Just watched Kick-Ass. Brilliant!

A few on here have said the same thing, so add me to that list. It's way more than just a beat-em-up,

Hit Girl is an awesome character, probably one of the best I've ever seen. Kept rewinding the "it's all under control boss" bazooka scene , really had me chuckling that bit

Wall Street 2

Good film. Not as good as the first IMO, but still a good story. Shia Leboeuf's star is rising more & more. Was good to see Gordon Gekko again 8-)

The Losers

Enjoyable tongue in cheek shoot em up which basically felt like a little less star studded version of The Expendables :D Worth a watch tho, some good action sequences & cple of chuckles along with a decent story line.

Has got Idris Elba & Chris Evans who are always good, along with Zoe Saldana who is very easy on the eye

Knight & Day

Much better than I thought it would be. Bit far fetched, but it means to be that way and so is enjoyable. Two good characters.

Red

Decent film. Some great action scenes, altho seemed to lose its way a little. Some quirky characters for Mary Louise Parker, John Malkovich & Helen Mirren whilst Bruce Willis puts in his usual good shift. Add Brian Cox & Morgan Freeman into the mix and its a solid cast.

Both films worth a watch

Forgive me if this movie has already been recommended, but it is brilliant. If you liked "Shaun of the Dead, "Zombieland" & "Kickass", you will REALLY enjoy this one. "I'm just so happy" it was made.

Watched 'Pandorum' the other night. Been meaning to see it for a while as for a sci-fi enthusiast (but not in a geeky way you understand!) it ticked all the right boxes. Pinched from imdb.....

Two crew members are stranded on a spacecraft and quickly - and horrifically - realize they are not alone. Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It's pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can't remember anything: Who are they? What is their mission? With Lt. Payton staying behind to guide him via radio transmitter, Cpl. Bower ventures deep into the ship and begins to uncover a terrifying reality. Slowly the spacecraft's shocking, deadly secrets are revealed...and the astronauts find their own survival is more important than they could ever have imagined.

Pretty much in the space-horror genre along with the likes of Event Horizon and Sunshine. More action-packed than the latter, but more satisfying as a whole than the former. I really enjoyed this, and i think i benefited from not reading to much about it and not seeing the trailer. Think it bombed at the box office which automatically makes it cooler in my eyes! An under the radar gem....

Cheers. I was lucky enough to see 'Moon' at the cinema. I'm a big fan.

Caught this a few months ago & really enjoyed it, although it's not particularly original fans of the genre should definitely seek it out 8-) ...

Got around to watching this - really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Had to rewind the "You've no idea how much cardio I have to do" scene a couple times so I could get some more laughs

Also saw Paranormal Activity 2. Not as good as the first IMO but some really good hair on the back of the neck moments - certainly one to add to the list

I glad you liked it. After giving it such high marks, I was worried I might have over-sold it.

I don't know how many of the extras you watched (I didn't see them all), but it sounds like there might have been some good stuff left on the cutting room floor. The "making of" video included a few minutes on the courtroom scene (which didn't make the cut), and the entire walk-run scene (showing how to keep up with running kids while walking) is a very funny concept, but evidently didn't translate well to the screen.

The original screenplay also had the grad-student filmmaker on trial for complicity (which explains the cut court-room scene), but they left it out. For the better I think - I don't need the moral lessons in my dark humor films.

yeah - the trial woulda been overkill. we got the idea.

was good waiting for them to slowly realise that it was her that was the virgin he was after. i actually clocked it coulda been her fairly early but wasn't sure it was gonna go that way and thought they might stick with kelly, became pretty obvious after they walked in on her in the bedroom tho :D

didn't get any extras as i downloaded mine, woulda been nice to have seen more of the running/walking scene - but still. i got a good belly laugh out of what i saw

Haven't posted on here for a while, here are some of my faves from the last few months:

The Town - top class heist movie with Ben Afflect on great form as star & director. Highly recommended. 9/10

The Social Network - Well told story about the birth of the Facebook phenomena. I feel that it demonised Zuckerberg somewhat, can't believe he was really that much of an asshole. Still, good watch. 7/10

Kick-Ass - Echo all the comments on here. Probably my joint favourite film of the year with 'The Town'. 9.5/10

Hot Tub Time Machine - Great 'Back to the 80's' nostalgia comedy. Predictable and corny but loads of fun. 8/10

Bad Lieutenant - A bit marmite as Razorback mentioned. I liked it, the missus didn't. Worth a watch if you like Cage. 7/10

The Disappearance of Alice Creed - Nice simple little Brit-flick about a kidnapping gone wrong. A must if you like Gemma Arterton ;-) 8/10

Brooklyn's Finest - 3 Bad Lieutenants. Decent flick though with a powerful ending. 7/10

I have also been indulging my penchant for horror. Have delved into the world of French shock-horror and can recommend the following:

Martyrs
Switchblade Romance
Frontier(s)

Looking forward to watching Paranormal Activity 2, and even more so .REC 2. The first .REC I thought was superb and apparently the sequel doesn't disappoint.

Bizarrely, I was just checking out a certain film site and was most pleased to see that this film is on at 11pm on SyFy tomorrow. :D

I've been meaning to watch this for ages (I think since it was mentioned on here) and having just read the comments above was quite shocked to see it listed. Great timing (unless that's why you mentioned it in the first place MLD...)

I knew that it was going to be shown on SyFy & it certainly would have got a mention on the FMOTB thread had I not recently taken a 'step back' from that thread  .

It isn't quite 'Razorsharp' but it's a decent sci-fi flick nonetheless, what I particularly liked about it is that you know as little as the main characters regarding what has happened and you really feel the panic & confusion that they're experiencing (as well as that there's also some truly decent twists & reveals along the way 8-) ).

If I was going to compare 'Pandorum' to another movie, I'd say it's closer to 'The Descent' than any other flick, so if you're a fan of that then it's definitely worth heading over to SyFy @ 11pm tomorrow night.

Actually, if you are going to head over to Syfy tomorrow night, then I'd suggest doing so at 9pm rather 11pm as you'll get to see the 'Razorsharp' 'Triangle' as well 8-) ...

The excellent Swedish teen-vampire film Let the Right One In has now been remade by Hollywood as Let Me In. Surprisingly for an American remake of a European film, it is, acording to the reviews, as good as the original. So for anyone who missed the Swedish version, I'd strongly recommend it. But NB If you think it's going to be anything like True Blood or the equally soppy Twilight franchise, you're in for a big disappointment.

This is the 2nd movie I've noticed recently being remade (relatively) shortly after the original ("Death at a Funeral" was the other one). Is this is new thing or have I just noticed it? Are the principals normally involved or are the rights sold? Anyone up on this?

BTW - I don't know if you guys are getting it or not, but "The Walking Dead" premiered Halloween night on AMC here in the States and looks promising. I also watched "Dead Set" (a British export I gather) on IFC over the weekend. Fun & short. If you saw it, was the sniper scene (when the boyfriend was making his way to the set) an homage to "Night of the Living Dead"? The dialog was something like "looks like we have a live one", which I think may have been the line in the climax of the original B&W film.

I saw the original recently and liked it. There are some great Swedish characters in there, I can't believe that Hollywood wouldn't make it nice and shiny, but I've seen the reviews too.

Another example is the US remake of the Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, this time with, surprise surprise, Daniel Craig as Blomkvist.

The Walking Dead (a TV series) has had a lot of pre-publicity over here, and starts its run this Friday on the FX channel. By all accounts worth watching.

Did you not mean to include True Blood or were you trying to be controversial!? True Blood is miles away from Twilight or any of the other vampire stuff that's been put out recently.

Fills a nice gap following the end of the latest season of Dexter. I'll be giving it a go.

To an extent I agree with BW that LTROI is a completely different beast compared with True Blood, and that, in terms of 'vibe', True Blood is in fact closer to Twilight i.e they both portray being a vampire as something that has more benefits than drawbacks.

Regarding the remake, going by the reviews it seems to be a decent flick which simply gives the story a wider audience as it caters for english speaking movie goers that don't like subtitles. After seeing the trailer & reading reviews (by individuals that had already seen LTROI) there's very little that's new IMO to the remake so personally I won't be making the effort to see this on the 'big screen' or when it debuts on blu-ray/dvd next year (but will no doubt eventually watch it (out of curiosity more than anything else) when it makes an appearance on Sky in a year or so's time).

P.S I'm also looking forward to catching 'The Walking Dead' on FX later this week, my gut instinct is telling me that it could turn out to be something rather special 8-) ...

No Spoilers.

It was decent, but after watching so many zombie movies the week leading up to Halloweeen, I may have been a little burnt out. But because pilots are usually not as good as the show eventually becomes (and as the pilot was really pretty decent), I too have high hopes.

When I first heard they were making a zombie series however, I wondered how they were going to keep it going. Hopefully being based on a comic should take care of that.

NB If you think it's going to be anything like True Blood or the equally soppy Twilight franchise, you're in for a big disappointment.
Did you not mean to include True Blood or were you trying to be controversial!? True Blood is miles away from Twilight or any of the other vampire stuff that's been put out recently.

I've only seen bits of True Blood and Twilight (because I didn't like them much), but I could see that they're a world away from Let the Right One In. True Blood and Twilight are closer to Buffy the Vampire Slayer than they are to LTROI - which, come to think of it, is reminiscent of the Swedish TV series Wallander in its mood and tone. (Wallander, incidentally, is yet another Swedish production that was remade almost immediately for the English-speaking public, the latter starring Kenneth Branagh. Both versions very good IMO)

Question...since you've admitted to only seeing 'bits' of 'True Blood' & 'Twilight', how much of BTVS have you actually seen :?: ...

I have teenage kids so I get to see a range of stuff that I wouldn't necessarily choose myself. I've seen a few episodes of Buffy, which I quite enjoyed ; the first Twilight film, which I thought was entertaining but, as I said earlier, soppy; and one episode of True Blood, which I thought was tosh. I've seen enough of all three to know that they're nothing like LTROI. I've also seen several episodes of both versions of Wallander, because Mrs Whiz is a big Wallander fan.

I've also read Bram Stoker's Dracula and Elizabeth Kostova's excellent historical novel The Historian, which I'd recommend to anyone who's interested in the legend of Vlad the Impaler (aka Count Dracula).

So now you know the full extent of my vampire education. :P

Watched 'Gamer' the other night.

"Set in a future-world where humans can control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online gaming environments, a star player from a game called "Slayers" looks to regain his independence while taking down the game's mastermind."

Sounds interesting on paper, but it isn't. The action scenes were dull, and often to quick and impossible to make out was going on. The 'story' was just pants. AVOID!

A second opinion :wink: ;

You know, Jason Statham would have been perfect for this movie 8-) . A decent enough action flavoured sci-fi flick (with a similar(ish) theme to last week's 'Surrogates') which really hits the spot if you're looking for something that enables you to switch your brain off for one hundred or so minutes  .
