For anyone interested in astronomy, esp. astronomy pictures this a worthwhile blog. Also useful for reminders about meteor showers etc.

I managed to watch the 2nd one at the weekend. I loved Lord Sir Prof Brain's (sic) "turn over to ITV now" put downs about the moon landings. Not worth wasting more than a few seconds to deal with that bunch of weirdos.

I live in a top floor flat in central amsterdam but have a large roof terrace at the back where there are no street lights (just house lights and normal city light pollution). if i were to buy a telescope i reckon I would limit to 500 Eur max but that would have to be for a very good scope. 300 Euro would be more realistic. I would want to be able to attach a DSLR to it. A motorized one would be nice but a real luxury.

Hi Surprised... apologies for taking so long. Been busy.

First off I would highly recommend joining this forum - http://stargazerslounge.com/
There's much more knowledgeable people on there than me.

As a start I would look at something like the scope I've linked to below. You get a big scope for the money and if the bug gets you, it can be transferred to a motorised mount that will let you get seriously into astro photograpghy.

It's £270.00 GBP which comes within your budget and allows you to add better eyepieces and maybe a webcam to start you on the path to photography.

Any questions... just ask and I'll do my best to answer.

If I had the cash I would have bought it... If I was patient it maybe could have been done but xmas was coming etc.

My daughter still loves what I got though and she is inspired her even more into the subject.

The important bit is that your daughter likes it and is inspired. You can't put a price on that.
