With all the hype surrounding the new Bond flick and with the 6th Season of 24 due to kick off in a little over 2 months, it has arisen the ongoing 'pub debate' of JB vs JB!

After discussing '24' the other evening, I contemplated that if Jack Bauer were to encounter James Bond in a 'hostile situation' could Bond actually be able to take Jack out!?

After I realized the heresy that had run through my mind, I quickly corrected myself to avoid the ridicule of my family and friends.

No-one could displace Bauer from his Thrown....Could they!??

So I put it to you. Bauer....or Bond....?

It has to be Bauer. Bond Eats, Sleeps, Shags, Drinks & Pisses. Jack Bauer is too focused on the goal to do any of those.

Good thread.

That's a no-brainer. Bauer aw day.

Listen, think about it this way, if the US and UK governments were enemies in a certain situation and it came down to a showdown between the 2 agents there's only one winner. Wee nippy Bauer up against Dalton/Moore/Lazenby/Connery/Brosnan/Craig is a nonsense. Bond would be pressing the ejector seat or spilling oil from the back of his car - nae good to you in a streetfight son. Nah, wee Bauer would either shoot him or take him hostage and torture it oot him.

Bauer is the man. 8-)

At least in 24 when Jack gets in a fight, or is flung 400 yards from a bombs explosion, or is tortured to within an inch of his life......he actually looks like it!! Meaning he looks bruised, and battered - where as bond gets up, dusts himself down and carries on without a mark.

To answer the question -Jack Bauer everytime.

And dont forget yer old da, that Jack isn't too bad at pulling the birds either!! (and equally as useless at holding on to them and keeping them alive!!)

I know, but for every Ursula Andress/Denise Richards/Halle Berry, there's an Audrey Raines.

Agreed. Ah, wee Kimberley. What's your point caller? Has Bauer to ditch Raines and set up camp with his daughter? In fact, I can answer that myself.

Marianne was Curtis' old squeeze, who was the mole in day 5.

Do you think Jack Bauer could take James Bond and Jason Bourne at the same time?

Jason Bourne??? Crazy!!

There hasn't been enough of 'the Bourne series' to make him a real contender.

John McClean might get a couple of digs in though!!

Let's be mathematical about this and score the two against each other.

Longevity... Bond 9 Bauer 6

James Bond has had 20+ different encounters with the silver screen whereas Jack Bauer has only had 5 with the small screen. 1-0 to the secret agent from England, or is it Scotland or Australia or Ireland?

Coolness... Bond 8 Bauer 7

Bond famously likes his martinis shaken not stirred and always has a humourous quip for awkward assisination-based moments. Bauer is a bit more simple-minded and will settle for a quick grimace when he's killing an innocent stranger but then again Jack was once a heroin junkie and actually died in one episode so a close run thing here.

Babes... Bond 9 Bauer 6

Only one winner here as 007's catalogue of bedded beauties is as long as his golden arm. Bauer's daughter is probably a bigger babe than any of these but she's a single white female compared to James' joyrides and thus doesn't win many points.

Daughter being stalked by a cougar in a national park just before a nuclear bomb goes off in the desert nearby... Bond 0 Bauer 10

During season 2 of 24, Jack pulled this one off even whilst he was being captured and tortured whereas the so-called license-to-kill Bond has not even bothered to claim to have a daughter on screen. Disaster for Bond-san!

So, totting up the scores at the end it's...

Bond 28 Bauer 29

A convincing win for the American and reflective of the sad state of affairs in British society ever since we gave up the Empire!

Until the latter stages when Jack rightfully claimed victory from the jaws of defeat......in typical Bauer fashion

Nice post though!! :D

Thank you. My post owes a small debt of gratitude to Viz comic and their similar face-off ratings, such as the most recent one: Captain Birds Eye vs Captain Kirk.

All was going well for the space-travelling Star Trek love god, including winning the "Anal Hygenie" category until the final round, which was "Captains Hats" that he lost 0-10 thereby losing the entire contest by one point.

Sean Connery's Bond in a walk. Jack whips all the other Bonds, but I haven't seen the new one. By the way stop saying Kiefer is an American. He's a Canadian!!
I know, I know, he's playing a Yank. If he was a Canadian agent he'd want to send in peacekeeping troops while the world burned, or lure the bad guys onto a hockey rink and smash them through the boards.

Isn't Kiefer British? Well he was born in London so he could claim to be, I guess.

Just checked his http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000662/bio and there are some fun facts there!

Any Bond would lose this contest... except the new Bond.

Much respect for new Bond.
