At the moment Assou-Ekotto has assist points for his part in Modric's goal, but this is from the Rounded Keeper thread:

However, just last week there was a similar situation and an exception was made for Kaboul's assist to Defoe when Savic headed the ball, because it still got to the intended player. (full explanation here)

Does anything change because two defenders touched it? I hope so because I don't have BAE  but it was clearly a pass for Modric.
Maybe it matters that the pass was cut out and cleared in this case, it just came back to its intended recipient really quickly off the back of another player.

Have they changed the wording of that since the start of the season? I don't remember the bit in bold being there before. Could be wrong though.

He didn't get the assist awarded for the Modric goal. He was awarded an assist for the second Bale goal.

In common sense the should give it, but since two opposing players touched it, the don't need to follow above rule.

Could be facing a F.A ban if they look at his tackle that the ref missed last night.

^^^ This.

I thought it was the last player from the scoring team that touched the ball before the scorer that got the assist, therefore BAE would have 2 assists.

Therefore, no assist for BAE. Would have been very lame if he got one considering the ball bounced off two players before it got to Modric.

If by lame you mean cool, then we totally agree on this.

But seriously, even with the Kaboul exception last week, it is highly unlikely IMO.

Stuboy has it right I believe.

The rules state the following:

Quote:
Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the last touch before the goal is scored.

If after this touch, an opposing player touches the ball outside the penalty area altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is given, except if this intervention directly results in an own goal.

FPL gave an assist to Rooney for this much to the bemusement of many FPL players:

Didn't watch the game myself, so don't know if the ref saw it or not.
If I had him in any of my teams I'd be counting me blessings he isn't facing a 3 match ban for that tackle, not hoping to snatch another flukey 3 points ...

IMO, he should be given a straight red every game, for his haircut alone
