I like to watch a traditional Christmassy film on Christmas Eve evening with the wife and daughter. This year I thought i'd give 'Bad Santa' a try, so I did a little preview on it, when it was on last night.

1. Didn't realise it was a 15 and therefore unsuitable for my 6yo anyway.
2. Bad language
3. Sex scene in a lap dancing bar, where a dancer has her titties out and Bad Santa places a scratchard into the knickers of another.
4. Sex scene in a Superstore changing room, where Bad Santa is clearing giving some girl a bit of 'anal pleasure', telling her you won't be able to sh*t for a week.
5. Sex scene in some birds car with her bonking away on top shouting 'Give it to me, Santa'.

.....and I only watched it for about 15 minutes ! Clearly unsuitable for Little Shrews, but myself and Mrs Shrews will be watching it !

A clue was perhaps in the title ? What about "Miracle on 34th Street" ?

A brilliant movie.I loved it.
And there is a feel-good Xmas redemption at the end of the bitter satire of all things PC and seasonal.

Bad Santa was near enough my cinematic highlight of last year. I had heard it was good, but I literally p*ssed myself all the way through it. Billy Bob Thornton was different gravy. The best scene was when he was eating his lunch and the mum approached with her little boy so he could tell Santa what he wanted for Christmas - the next bit was absolute dynamite!

"I'M ON MY F*CKING LUNCH BREAK!", with lettuce spitting out his mouth.

Seen it a couple of times now. Very good. I also like Elf, especially the bit where the little midget chap beats him up for calling him a South Pole Elf (or something like that ) !

Santa Clause 3 is out at the pics soon, so I might see if I can get it on 'Pirate'

This is a good film to watch with kids in the "transitional years" eg kids of 9-11 who may not believe in Santa or those who are starting to waver (also suitable for big kids of all ages  ).

For Christmas movies you cant get any better than 'Its a Wonderful Life', it may not be the greatest kids movie in the world, it may not have santa, or much in the way of Christmas cheer, but as a film its difficult to beat!

'It's a Wonderful Life' is a great Christmas movie, but not exactly ideal for a 6 year old, I think.

Have you considered 'The Grinch'? I'm not overly keen on Carey but I love this film. Dr. Zeuss's stuff is ideal for a young 'un, the set designs are magical and Carey apes it up with just enough comedy menace to enthrall a child. Full of Christmas Spirit! :D

'The Brave Little Toaster' has been one of my favourites since I caught it on telly one Xmas morning ten years ago or so. Not specifically Xmas-related but it seems to match with the spirit of the season.

It's the animated tale of a world-weary hoover, a dim but courageous lamp, a shy blanket(!), an annoyingly sparky radio (voiced by Jon Lovitz!) and, yes, a brave toaster, who yearn for their young master who has abandoned them to rust, etc. in a rundown holiday home.

This intrepid troupe decide to have an incredible journey to find their now grown-up master, setting out to find him in the big city with many adventures on the way and a terrifying climax, involving the ultimate sacrifice. It's a musical as well.

It's possibly the most moral film since It's a Wonderful Life but it's damn good fun and perfect for pre-teen kids I would say. As good as Toy Story in my book.

If you want something for all the family, try and see The Muppets' Christmas Carol - that's our favourite in the fancy dan household. And much better than the Jim Carrey film is the 60s animated version of the Grinch, with Boris Karloff voicing the Grinch himself. Or just buy the book, and everything else Dr Seuss ever did while you're at it.

Bad Santa sounds great, reckon that'll be on Film4 pretty soon, must check it out.

If you and Mrs. Shrews like Laurel & Hardy why not get 'Below Zero' as a starter? It's only £6 here and comes with 'Saps at Sea'.

Below Zero Plot: In the dead of winter, street musicians Stanley and Oliver aren't getting much business in a run-down neighborhood, and then their instruments are smashed in a run-in with a formidable woman. Their luck seems to turn when they find a wallet full of money, but are about to lose it to a thief when a passing policeman chases the thug off. The boys treat the officer to a meal, but when Stanley pulls out the wallet to pay, the cop recognizes it as his own. Rather than running them in as pickpockets, he pays his own tab and leaves Stanley and Oliver at the mercy of the gruff headwaiter.

6 is about the right age to begin indoctrinating young 'uns into the joys of Stan and Ollie and a 20 minute short will get you all nicely settled for the 'main event'. :D
