Any advice for a newbie playing the Sky game? Having never played the Sky game before I was wondering if anyone could suggest the best way to pick my team. Is there generally more value in selecting high price Def, Mid or Str?? Ive picked my team already on the website but its a very top heavy team wth a lot of moey spent on Mid and Att. Would it be better to try and get a more balanced team to start with?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Personally i would treat it like any other FF game. It's not always about balance.
I would suggest you read the Captain ruling as that catches a few people out.

I've managed to understand when you're allowed to change your captain, but can't find anything about using Transfers on your captain. I'm new to this Sky game but have played games in the past with this format, and you weren't allowed to transfer out your captain once the weekend's fixtures had begun, is this the same here? :?:

Sorry for slight thread hijack so to the original poster: I think the captaincy element of this format makes it worth picking at least a couple of top-priced attacking (mid/str) players, and the scoring system means defenders don't get penalised so much (relatively) when they concede loads so having a couple of cheaper defenders isn't a bad idea. :)

Yes,you can only transfer players during the transfer window. Watch the max 5/month transfer rule too.

As has been said, generally the same strategy can be employed as in other FF games, but the captaincy rule catches some people out,and as always, the first rule is "Read the rules" :D

You may for instance choose a captain for a midweek game, but then find you're stuck with him as captain the next weekend, as you can't change him again until the window opens on Tuesday, the start of the GW,which runs until the first game of a fixture block - usually the next weekend(Sat to Monday),unless there's a mid week game/s,(Tues and/or Wed) in which case you can change your captain the day following the last game of the midweek fixtures.(This is not a game for amateurs, like TFFO  )

It may be because I'm an amateur, but those two statements have me right confused :P

Sorry reds if I've only confused you further - I shouldn't have responded to your Q,when I'm extremely tired and haven't eaten since breakfast ! I was just trying to help

I overlooked a change - I think it was last season - in the captaincy rule. As far as I remember,it previously wasn't possible to change your captain after a GW was underway. I think Sky changed the rule because people got locked into a captain they'd chosen for the midweek game/s but whom they didn't want as captain for the following weekend's games.

So,until someone more alert than myself at present passes by to clear up your confusion, hopefully it's at least clear to you now when you can make your transfers, and captain changes. (If not, read the rules

Ive had a read of the rules and seem to understand (slightly) the rules behind the game. As stated the Captain seems to be a major factor in the scoring in this game and choosing the right one is probably the difference between winning my works league or not.

Thanks for the advice about the set up of my team. As you say there isnt a huge punishment for having a team with a poor defence as conceeding a few goals isnt going to hurt as much as some other games. May try and go with a slightly top heavy team and try and get the bargin defenders.

How does this look for a starting line up?

Green

Vidic
Jagielka
Cahill
Vermaelen

Malouda
Petrov
Lampard
Nasri

Rooney
Tevez

Hi grob, I'm also a newbie to Skysports FF.
Are you sure you can only transfer during the transfer window? I can't find anything in the rules that states that :?:

hi Mammoth, sorry if my previous post confused you - you can indeed transfer players anytime,as long as you do so before the k/o of their next game, for their points in their next game to count.

It was the issue of captain changes which caused the confusion - these can only be made in one of the windows.

It used to be the case that if you nominated a captain at the start of the GW(Tuesday) ahead of a game on the Tuesday or Wednesday night, you were then stuck with him for the following weekend's games,as you could not change your captain again until the following Tuesday.

However,Sky have changed that rule so now you can change your captain after the last midweek game, ahead of the weekend games.
