No this isn't a thread about tomuk or a sun forum member on his hols.... :P

Did anyone see the preview show on sky one.

I think this is going to be hilarious. Karl Pilkington can't really be that stupid can he? he was an editor or something on one of Ricky Gervais's early radio shows so he can't be that thick.

Anyway from the clips I've seen it is going to be funny seeing the poor bustard eating sheeps eyes and sleeping in a tent in the jungle taking a piss in an evian bottle inside his tent and then going outside and tipping it out because he's too scared to take a piss outside incase something "likes the look of his penis"

I do have a few stories from the honeymoon but its more to do with me being tight....

I was at the Spanish steps with the misses, and after the first day I got stung 3.5 euros for a bottle of water at the Colosseum  so later that day when going past a shop I spotted them for 50 cents ( that annoyed me but I should have known it'd be expensive at a stall near the sights ) so I bought about ten bottles

anyway on the second day it was Spanish Steps and the Trevi fountain, whilst at the Spanish steps I was thirsty, I'd brought along my bag of about 4 bottles of water and I was routing through the bag on the floor when all of a sudden I looked up and this indian lad had given my misses a rose ( oh eff here we go  ) he whipped the camera out of her hand and was " give her a kiss I'll take a beautiful picture"

I knew the cnut was gonna ask for money - he took the picture, I snatched the camera back and said cheers pal, see you later. he then says ten euros please sir

I said " ten effin euros for a half dead rose and one picture - you can eff off and keep your rose" - this resulted in another 3 off them coming over to which I hastly handed over a ten spot  robbing bustards

Also................on one night I managed to buy two meals for 14 euro's, very nice they were too but a lager and a malibu and coke cost me 18 euro's eff me I was fuming ( I was drinking the lager by the way )

Italy - make sure you have a spare grand for spending money

Saw the preview show last night and it looks like its going to be funny. I'd only ever seen Pilkington speaking in his 'cartoon' form before so it was a bit weird seeing him in the flesh as he actually looks quite normal.

I agree in reality that he's probably putting on an act but I'd like to think there's probably a part of him that's actually like that in some way or other.

On Rome I had similar experiences when I went there with my missus. Beautiful city but the people are a bunch of cheating bustards!

First day we went for lunch near the Vatican. Ordered a couple of sandwiches which were priced at 3 euros each at the counter (fairly resonable), and a couple of glasses of Coke to go with it. Had lunch and asked for the bill which came to 20 euros! I queried this and the bloke explained that each Coke was 7 euros pointing to a tiny board above the entrance door (that no-one would ever look at) displaying the drinks prices!

So the next day we went to the Colosseum and afterwards fancied a beer so went into a nearby bar. Having been stung the previous day I wasn't going to get caught out again so asked to see the drinks menu. A large beer was priced at 5 euros. A bit pricey but it was a nice place and we thought we'd treat ourselves. So I ordered 2 large beers and the barman shows us to a table asks us to sit down and brings the beers over. The beers were a decent size and tasted good. After we finished I asked the guy for the bill and its 20 euros!! What the f**k!, I said, your drinks menu says a large beer is 5 euros, we ordered 2 so that should be 10 euros. "I'm sorry sir but the menu shows prices for drinking at the bar. You sat at a table in the lounge area so the price is double" THE DIRTY CHEATING BUSTARDS!!!

Yeah while trying to enjoy myself I hate getting ripped off  I asked the price of everything and looked at all the menu's before ordering anything.

Went to a Pizzeria and it said 100g of Margarita pizza was something like 1.80 euros the only thing is they bring you like like 600g and you don't get much of a say in it.

No one tried the "cover charge" on me

But I did get stung by an old cnut playing the accordion - as soon as he strolled up and started playing I knew I'd be parting with more money

I'm back to work tonight and I'm going to start doing it the Italian way......

Stand outside eyeing up anything female ( shit already do  )

Take people food they didn't want and bill them for it ( bread and olives )

Charge them four times the normal price for any drinks

when they have ordered a 7oz fillet for £14.99 as stated on the menu - I'll make it £30 and tell them some bollocks like "oh its only £14.99 if you eat it cooked blue cooked any other way is £30"

Start singing to them and whack another £10 on the bill

and just for the hell of it, charge them a £10 each for the privileged of spending their money and sitting in my restaurant

Didn't you find any of the amazing back street restaurants?

Had three days there a while back, and after getting stung for ice-creams on day 1, we were OK.

But then the ex-wife was into spending far less for pop etc than paying extortionists

Yeah only went to those - they were amazing for food but the drinks and other charges are a joke. The food was excellent - I couldn't believe I could buy a main meal for 6 or 7 euro's but a drink cost 9???? :? how is that right...

First part (of 8) just finished. I laughed until I cried

I'm glad it's on Sky as the ad breaks allow me to compose myself for the next part. The best hour's TV I have watched in a long, long time.

Fascinating insight into China but so, so funny - India & the Taj Mahal next week, can't wait.

Sorry to break up the love-in but have to disagree because:

1. Paul Merton did it better.
2. Ricky Gervais constant cackling "THIS IS HILARIOUS! YOU MUST LAUGH!" got right on my tits (and I think Gervais is great).
3. Pilkington just says what northern people think as a matter of course and exaggerates it. This is standard, not funny.

Frankly it just Gervais proving he could make a film about someone making a cup of tea and some TV channel would buy it and give him even more money.

Watching Ebdon was like having my toe-nails pulled by the ludicrously unfunny combo of Virgo and Taylor.

However, that post seems like what I imagined I missed.

Gervais is disappearing down the plug-hole of knob-dom, IMHO.

1. Didn't see the Paul Merton show so can't really comment, but Merton isn't really an 'idiot' in the same way as Pilkington, so I'd imagine his show might have had a different slant?
2. Agree that Gervais cackling and shrieking is annoying but fortunately he's not really in the show that much. It's generally all about Pilkington.
3. Pilkington says what a lot of northern (and southern?) people might think but don't actually say. To me that can be funny.

I didn't think it was the best thing in years, but definiately watchable with a few very amusing moments.

I find Karl Pilkington very watchable and in a way endearing but am still not sure how 'for real' he actually is. Is he 100% for real (in which case how did he ever get a job as a producer?), is he just a complete character (like Ali G, Paul Calf) played by an intellegent comedy actor, or is he sort of like that in real life but encouraged to exaggerate and put it on a bit for comedy effect?

I think it's only part 'put on' but mostly it is his normal way. He's been working with Gervais since 2002ish and he gradually became a bigger part of the radio show. Certainly Gervais saw something he could turn into a 'character' but I'm sure its not all scripted.
