It's amazing what 6 pints of brave juice can do for you. I was stood at the train station in Manchester tonight, queuing at Burger King for some much-needed junk. The 3 guys in front of me, busy swigging from their wine & cider bottles, were being obnoxious to the server. Then I heard them ask if his visa had run out and one of them say that his dad worked in immigration control.

When one of them turned round to repeat to me his "banter" about Mcdonald's doing a burger for 79p whereas this was a ripoff, I told him I wasn't interested and that the racist chat was unacceptable. Fortunately it didn't cause a flare up.

The worst of it is that I half felt eff stupid for challenging 3 young lads about it rather than being glad I'd done the right thing.

Well done, though I have to admit that the thread title did lead me to believe this discussion would be about furniture (think about it...).

I was in the queue at a coffee shop in London last week when the person serving asked the customer in front to repeat his order. The customer replied in a "comedy" accent and turned round laughing to me and said the "effing immigrant should make more of an effort to understand me in my country".... I looked at him, shook my head slowly and said "sorry I've no idea what you just said then, you eff prick" and laughed.

Made me laugh anyway

Who said they were English? What does assumption do?

Fast food outlets of a night will always have :-

a) mostly ethnic staff as white people wouldn't want to do it...and that's because
b) the white people know that some of their are own kind will be a nightmare to serve on a Friday and Saturday night to serve (if wasn't skin colour, it would be weight, height, etc insults)

I was bricking it a bit, yes! I knew I was fired by a night on the beers, but having to stand behind them watching be utterly obnoxious (I think they sent back a perfectly good burger for no good reason first) and then hearing the racist chat, what with its high profile in the news this week, I wasn't prepared to play when one tried to include me in the "banter". I suppose I would have bit my tongue if they had looked a bit rougher, but there we go.

I was then heartened to see 2 police offices on duty when I left the counter, before promptly bricking it again that they might be on my train. I have a feeling they were but didn't see me get on and weren't looking for trouble. Which is just as well.

Too true, I was at a black tie do last week and although it wasn't race related someone got arsey with someone else and ended up sparked out on the floor. After one punch he managed to hit every surface on the way down and ended up in a right mess. I've stuck up for people on occasion but scenes like that make me think twice.

How old were these guys? Seems comical that one of them was so sad that he brought up "daddy's" job.

I was on a train one night and this guy was mouthing off about muslims so I told him to cut it out. He then said he was going to stamp on my head until the brains came out. I couldn't stop laughing and that seemed to upset him more.

Not British youth, just English youth who are lazy.

The young from Wales and Scotland are very hardworking. The problem is purely a English social class issue ie look at the riots earlier in the year. They only involved England and did not spread to Scotland or Wales.

Generally the youth in Wales and England are brought up in stable family units and taught the difference between right and wrong however the English family system has all but dissolved in favour of greed and selfishness.

You will find simliar types in London or Glasgow or Cardiff. They all have their chavs, scallys, neds, whatever they are called.

Bluenosey - your experience is limited to Birmingham (A key centre of the riots along with London) you will find that the youths in Wales (even Cardiff) are well mannered and polite.

I cannot talk for Glasgow having never been there but on the whole for Wales we have a national pride and idenity which is lacking in England.

It wasn't a key centre it was just copy cat - like Manchester. A load of kids just wanted free trainers or mobile phones. I've been to Cardiff twice and enjoyed the city but based on certain tv shows, Wales has problem areas just like anywhere else.

Go into parts of Wales and you will see the same. Take a walk through some of the South Wales valleys and you will see how the destruction of mining and industry has decimated communities.

What utter crap.

It IS British youth, not just English, and the Welsh are certainly nowhere near being wronged by that. Welsh youths, English, Scottish... no difference at all. sure you get good well mannered people, everywhere, but you also get plenty of workshy "The world owes me a living" ill mannered people too.

Are you really that deluded? Some of us do occasionally cross Offa's Dyke you know.

The pavements there seem equally marked as those in towns and cities here from the knuckle scraping youth.
