I would put them in the order in which you would like them to 'start', ie best top, worst bottom, as that will be the order in which they will face opponents for the first game. See my PM, in which I put them in such an order.

Ok i've had a re-shuffle and done it based on best to worst scores from last season. I figure i'm in no position to judge who's best other than with cold hard stats... which puts me bottom of the list

Remember that the replacement will have to slot into 5th in your league - so has to have a overall score less than Five Long Bones.

We'll have to take a dead team then

You could always recruit a ringer from another fantasy game or real life somewhere who doesn't currently have an FPL team - they'd be on 0 so no worries with the league place requirement and they'd start off able to pick their £100m team knowing who the hot form players are right away which would probably balance out the disadvantage of having had no profit from team value up til now.

From memory, didn't that rule only affect andycoull's overall tables (in terms of a points deduction) and not the 5AS?

To my knowledge (please correct me if I've got this wrong) the original rule was that you couldn't recruit someone with a higher score than the one that was leaving as this would allow teams to climb the overall 5AS games tables by recruiting a ringer or two. This was because that game (which hasn't really run for a few years) was based on overall league scores.

However there's no reason (I can think of) why that game (main 5AS) can't just work on scores (inc transfer penalties) that are scored each week rather than looking at the current totals of the current members. In other words squads' contributions to their team are only those for when they were a member of that team.

I think it was done the way it was done for admin reasons - the admin only have to tot up the current overall scores of the team members as-at-now rather than worry about how long each member had been in the team. It can easily be done differently now as the week by week data is collected now for the H2H and could easily be adapted to run a overall league based 5AS. I was thinking of doing that anyway and am using the same principle for the qualifying stages of the 5AS Champs League.

That aside though I'm not really sure what rules apply as they have changed over the years - be that officially or unofficially - but the last I was aware of was that a new member couldn't be any higher up the teams league than the person they were replacing.

Using that as a base seems fair but no one wants to see a team unable to recruit or be too restricted. As they are "Cheeky Monkeys" why not numpty FLB as well - recruit someone with a score less than Gigg11's (~100 more) and then re-recruit FLB again - no "rules" would be broken . I think that works but it's not really my place to say.

May I respectfully suggest that the 5AS Rules be incorporated as a "sticky" in the intro of the launch of each new season's comp, to avoid the above confusion arising,especially for the benefit of newbies,as even 5AS veterans seem unable to remember them ?

I think reference to any variations of the 5AS sidegame simply serve to confuse matters.

If variations of the game are launched,then the originator should be allowed to introduce their own rules,as RomynPG has done in relation to his Champions League 5AS game.

Let's give it time, there may be someone out there for us. In the meantime Tedbull will still be playing for us, albeit in a Tevez at Man City type role.
