Ridiculous about the difference in price between this and a train ticket though.

It takes me from A to B without any hanging around on cold station platforms, or catching a tube for my connection. When I get to London I'll hire a car with some of the money I've saved on the train fare.

Could you have done similar wth a cheap Squeasyjet flight from Glasgow/Edinburgh???

I live in the South of Scotland and it's about a 2 1/2 hours drive to Glasgow/Edinburgh, so it's easier for me to get to Carlisle. I'd also have to park my car at the Airport and check in about 2 hours before my flight, by that time I'd be halfway down the M6 on the bus/train reading a book.
