Paddy Harrington has ruined my season... Either Westwood or McIlroy in his place and I would be flying high on the overall leaderboard.

To reflect on his recent poor form... All you need to do is look at this weeks odds.

McIlroy 8/1
Harrington 20/1

I'm going to have a large wager at that price hoping that old Paddy re-pays me for destroying my Fantasy Golf season.

(an old Tglover trick of covering the guy I just sold from all my teams)

Have you contacted Mr Green to find out which numpty keeps logging into your team and putting in Harrington? Shocking lapse in security. It is probably the same person who didn't log-in last week to make changes. :?:

Was held in May I think and timing clashed with the big guns' schedules - maybe too close to US Open? Anyway, the change of date has brought the big boys in.

Last year, the event was held in May - in-between the Players Championship and BMW PGA Championship - thus explaining the relatively poor field.

The event was also held at a different venue (Baltray), so last year's results mean very little.

Personally, I'd be surprised if the winner didn't come from the elite group of McIlroy, Harrington, McDowell, Rose and F Molinari.

I hoping my 100% reliance on McIlroy comes to fruition again...half a million euros would do wonders for either him or Harrington in the Race to Dubai.

Explain to me this laying off malarky? I see it mentioned a lot. What does it mean? Does it mean you cash in your bet for a smaller return in case after day 1 the player blows up?

It's something you can do on Betfair...and depending on how much time you have on your hands, can prove very fruitful.

Taking the above instance, let's say you put a tenner on Paul McGinley at 100/1. Then, including your stake, you'd get back £1010 if he wins.

Let's say his odds tumble down to 20/1. Then you can act as the bookmaker and lay it off at that price. You can lay off whatever you like, but I'd quite commonly cover my stake, so lay-off £10 at 20/1 - thus reducing your potential profit by £200.

This means that you now have a no-lose situation. You'd win £800 if McGinley wins and breakeven if he doesn't. Simples.

Alternatively, you can lay off far more than your initial stake to ensure a profit. By laying off £25 at 20/1, you'd win £15 if McGinley doesn't win and £500 if he does. Quids in.

You can quite often bet on a player before he reaches an easy par five and lay-off after he makes birdie (hopefully!) and bag a nice profit! You can also lay before you bet (say, when a player you don't particularly fancy reaches a tough stretch of holes), but this is a far more risky strategy!

But beware...there are always people with more information than you (i.e. are at the course rather than relying on leaderboards or delayed television coverage!)

Wow. Thanks Mr Green. That is all far too clever for me. You would need to spend all day in front of a computer watching the odds I would imagine. And a live feed from the event would help, too.

I think there might be something wrong with the leaderboard on europeantour.com, it's also showing Michael Campbell at level par after 6 holes!

Apparently, Rock's scores on 14 and 15 had been entered in the wrong order and he was disqualified.

Thursday, July 29, 2010Robert Rock Disqualified From Irish Open 2010
In a case of extreme hard luck Robert Rock has been disqualified from the Irish Open in Killarney. Rock’s “immoveable object” image at the Irish Open was set to continue when he compiled an opening round of 65. Rock who had been surrounded in alignment rods as he struggled with his swing on the practice range, chipped and putted like a magician. However, as I understand it, it was discovered after the round that Rock’s score on 14 and 15 had been entered in the wrong order and he was disqualified.

Unfortunately, Rock himself cannot be excused from error (the caddy probably has nothing to do with it, unless they're specifically requested to be an extra pair of eyes) - it's the player who is responsible for ensuring that his scores and the scores inserted by their marker tally up.

It's unfortunate, but rules are rules...he's not the first and he certainly won't be the last.

Wasn't it the Irish Open last year when Molinari was DQ'd for the same reason?
Peter Hanson marked him down as a 5 - 4 when it should have been 4 - 5.

It must be the done thing for pro's to just mark their cards on every other hole.

Yes, it was indeed.

Some players mark their cards after every hole, some every three holes, and a few on a more ad hoc basis...but it just shows how important it is to check and double check after the round.

I don't know what made me think the caddy marked the card. I seem to be getting dafter by the year! I had quite a nice team forming this week with Overton, De Jonge and Rock (with Price benched).

Just tapped in for his fourth birdie in a row (the previous three holes being 486, 477 and 501 yard par-fours!), now 10-under for the round.

Needs top be -2 for the final four holes (one being a par five, and the other three not particularly long par fours) for a 59...

Alas, just four pars to finish with and a round of 61. I'll be surprised if he's not leading at the end of the day, though...
